Beckham's armored BMW X5 stolen

British soccer megastar David Beckham bought his $180,000 armored BMW X5 because he feared his family might be kidnapped. Ironically, the car itself has now been stolen.

The specially converted SUV was taken from outside the Gran Madrid hotel near Beckham's home in an upmarket suburb of the Spanish capital. Beckham lives in Madrid and plays during the regular season for leading Spanish team Real Madrid.

The footballer had lent the X5 to one of his security staff — who apparently forgot to switch on the car's built-in tracking system, which means it couldn't be located electronically. Police believe the thieves are unlikely to have known it belonged to the star. If they realize it, there is concern they might demand a ransom for its return.

Beckham is said to have bought the armored SUV after a failed kidnap attempt on his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria (a.k.a. "Posh Spice"), and 6-year-old son Brooklyn, who are regular tabloid headliners in Europe. Beckham is a renowned car fan. His collection also includes several Ferraris and Aston Martins as well as a Hummer H2, a Bentley Arnage, and a Lincoln Navigator.

They steal X5's everyday here...Why everything about Beckham is so big?? I mean, when his child goes to the hospital 'oh my god, the whole world is up, every TV reports about that'...they don't give a sh!t about millions of children and people that are sick and suffer every day..That's pissing me off.

Dominix; though you have a point the reason it is big, is that the guy is a famous athlete, the car is armoured and was stolen from a hotel i believe. There is some extra detail, as for the rest of the people in the world, sure its sad, and dissapointing, but what can you do.

Damn Dominix.... chill out a bit buddy,.. no need to get cheesed off at the media, they're just doing their job.

Ofcourse if you compare the 'value' of this story, it pales in significance to more humane issues such as poverty and war, ...but the media isn't concerned with providing topics which are ethically and socially more important... they are concerned with providing a story which sells.
The Beck's are big news over there, so an media company over there would be absolutely crazy not to publish this news. Yes it was just 1 of his many cars which was stolen,...but ofcourse people are going to want to read about how David Beckham's car got stolen rather than some Tom, Dick or Harry's cars getting stolen.
Publicity sells... it's simple business in the end. People don't wanna hear about kid starving in Africa because it makes them feel guilty, ..but report how Beck's car got stolen and people feel good and laugh a little at him.
Give the public the news they want and they'll keep buying your magazine or newspaper. ..money money money.

As for his car being stolen..... kind of ironical actually... how he tries so hard putting state of the art security systems around his house..and then some thieves take off with his car outside a hotel.

i feel bad for him spending all that money and such trying to get a state of the art protection for his family and then getting it stolen
and btw how did they manage to steal it was it not locked or something and even if it wasnt locked there must be something in place to make it not be able to start withought the key
