Formula 1 cars are unbelievably efficient in terms of aerodynamics and they are far beyond any road car. Actually I would LOVE to see the numbers for the Comparo T1 with high downforce setup : )

Formula 1 car produces weight ratio of 1:1 at speeds between 125 km/h (78 mph) to 130 km/h (81 mph) and at 200 km/h the ratio is almost 2:1!!! The weight of the Formula 1 cars is strictly regulated by the FIA and their minimum weight is 605 kg including the driver, fluids and on-board cameras. So at ~130 km/h they can produce 605 kg of downforce and theoretically they can drive upside down! At 200 km/h they can produce 1210 kg. And of course all of this depends on their setup. For example during the Monaco Gran Prix the cars are with their maximum downforce aero package because the circuit is very slow and they need maximum downforce in lower speed (a nightmare for the aerodynamicists). At circuits like Monza and Indianapolis they use their low downforce aero packages because those tracks have very long straights where top speed is essential for a good laptime.

I made this quick comparison using the BMW F1.06 car from 2006.

You can clearly see the differences in the front and the rear wings. Low downforce package looks much “cleaner”! There are probably many more differences in these two setups but I just don’t know enough…

There is nothing, known to mankind, which can beat those machines on track

Great thread btw!
