Dude, get a grip on the context of my posts and this thread. Just_me cited an example of the 335i taking 17.8 seconds to go from 80-180km/h and the E55 time was 17.7 seconds. I used this example to illustrate my point about how different gear ratios can affect acceleration runs. I KNOW the 335i is not a competitor to the E55.

The big difference in acceleration in 4th gear between the 5-SPEED E55 and 7-SPEED M5 is likely due to the different gearing ratios. The speed with with the SMGIII shifts is irrelevant in this comparision (the whole point of this test is to test acceleration in a fixed gear).

You're talking about gear ratios influencing the result, while I'm talking about tyres as a factor too.
The giveth and the taketh.
You're right, maybe the 335i will be faster with lighter, more grippier tires. Just like my C55 will likely blow the E46 M3 away on the Nurburgring/Hockeheim if I had wider 19" tires and a LSD like the M3 has.....

lol of course, I like BMW but Im not stupid but this list show us how long it takes to reach 80-180km/h with different cars in different gears. Nothing else but the 335i does impress me with its claim 306hp

Here are the speeds held in each gear for both cars, and the E63 just for fun:

BEAST...........…E55...........E63………M5
RPM............…6100.........6800……..7750
Final Drive...…2.65..........2.82……...-
1st gear.......…48.34........41.54…….44.43 mph
2nd gear......…79.25........63.57…….66.74 mph
3rd gear.....…123.09........94.69…….97.99 mph
4th gear.....…173.55.......132.71……127.13 mph
5th gear.....…209.10.......181.81……152.73 mph
6th gear.........-....….......221.71……176.97 mph
7th gear.........-.......…....249.05……212.45 mph

These explain why the E55 did so poorly

BTW it seems whoever chose the ratios for the E63 must have been dropped on their head several times, unless AMG was really trying to handycap the car at top end?

So in the end, you agree with my original post about different gear ratios. Next time, just read what I have to say before jumping to the conclusion that I was bashing BMW inappropirately. Believe it or not, I like BMW and their products.

Holy mother of mercy.
Are sure they're acurate bum-man ?!

Also, do you have Veyron numbers, just for fun.

And remember, BMW, sadly, usually craps its products with improper tyres.

I got it from MBWorld I'm sure it's fairly accurate as I remember Just_me posting something similarly outrageous a while ago, just couldn't find it.
Don't have any Veyron numbers though. It wouldn't surprise me if it were geared to go in access of 300mph however.

Thanks for confirming my point of how different gear ratios can affect acceleration runs. The gearing in the E63 is a bit odd. It's almost like the last 2 gears are overdrive gears. This clearly explains why the M5 can walk away from the E55 (and likely the E63) at very high speeds.
