Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 Can I just impart a small measure of disgruntlement. Something's not right here. In the category above 4 litres am I to believe that the extraordinary 6.2 litre AMG V8 engine only comes fifth? Lightweight and compact, undersquare, bonkers power and torque, a soundtrack to die for; this AMG engine is as charismatic as it is versatile and ubiquitous. It does superb duty in a CLS 63 as it does in an ML 63. It ought to come in in second or third place, objectively, because in my humble opinion it is the best V8 engine in the world. By no means do I agree with its ranking.

Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 Agreed! It was weird to me from the beginning as well that this masterpiece was ranked that low... ![]() ![]()

Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 I agree that the V8 deserves 2nd or 3rd. The AMG won't have the low end vitality of the old 5.5 supercharged nor the high end of the BMW V10. It's a low to mid compromise; but here's the catch, it's got way too much torque to follow the F1 formula of optimised torque exploitation via the custom made fancy sequential transmission (nor does it have variable exhaust for that matter). In effect, for all its virtues witch a not few, it's a good/very good jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. Again, I definatelly agree that it deserved 2nd or 3rd place.

Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 I'm surprised to see Lexus hybrid 5L V8 featuring so high on the list. I agree with you guys, the AMG V8 is more deserving of that place.

Mercedes should have paid the guys who make up these awards more money. Im sorry but I dont think theres something quite right with these results, or maybe its because its all too performance orientated. | |

Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 Yes I agree. BMW was either winner or runner up almost category. While Toyota beat VAG and MB. Maybe it's too americanised ?!

Re: International Engine of the Year Awards 2007 Why ?! .. at the best performance and/or 3 to 4 litre categories. Or is it that you doubt the engines specs ?!
