*** Inzell Eisspeedway Motorcycle World Championships***

Yesterday I attended the Inzell Eisspeedway World Championships in Inzell. These were the semi-finals. Drivers here raced each other for the finals, which are going to be held in Berlin. The motorcycles they use are light and powered by 1-cylinder Czech JAWA engines which also use gasoline mixed with methanol for more power.

Every race was composed of 4 bikes and 4 laps. After 4 races, a Mercedes Unimog truck would smooth out the racetrack for the next round.

I left 3/4 of the way through the competition because the air was so bad. First the burned methanol was really offensive and second, this is Germany and Germans are world champions in smoking. Everyone around me was smoking. I couldn't take it anymore. No offense Tycoon!

The Eisstadion...

This was the Czech drivers camp. Check out the spikes on the wheels of these bikes.

The dude with the cowboy hat with spikes was one of the Czech drivers.

I think this was one of the Russian guys. He was giving out autographs.

The track of the Eisstadion, Inzell.

Inzell Stadtmusikanten before playing the German national anthem...

Hot local A$$. Check out my imagestation album for the BIGGER pictures of these chicks!

Hunter firing their guns into the air. No idea what the point of this was though. Probably some tradition.

Driver introduction. So far, the following nations have made it through: Austria, Russia, Finland, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic, Jan Klatovsky and Jan Pecina

The Netherlands, René Stellingwerf and Jonny Tuinstra

Germany, Sweden and Russia

Germany. The small kid on your far right is only 8 years old and already a big talent. He opened up the semi final competitions with his small bike driving around the ice track. Insane, this kid has got talent!!!! Anyway, the Germans were: Günther Bauer, Helmut Weber, Stefan Pletschacher, Andreas Roth and Franz Mayerbüchler. Forgot the name of the little kid.

The Austrians, Martin Leitner and Franky Zorn (red cap). "Zorn" in German means ANGER and this guy drove like a madman. Every start, he always took the lead and kept it. A real badass and talented driver.

Cheerleaders from Germany.

Austrian fans with fireworks...

Team Finland. Aki Al Riihimäki and Tommy Flyktman

Russia. Mikhail Bogdanov and Nikolai Kranikov. Bogdanov finished first place at the end of the day with 28 points followed by Franz "Franky" Zorn from Austria in second place. Both Russians were badass and since they were both from Siberia, they knew how to handle the ice properly. Bogdanov took the lead in every race. Incredible.

A few minutes before the race, the 8-year-old German kid opens up the race on his mini icebike. This kid could drive!

Scenes from the racces...

Mercedes Unimog smoothing out the track...

One of the Finnish drivers had an accident and smashed into the protective barriers. I forgot to mention that these bikes don't have brakes - rules of the competition!!!

The Final Placings (first 6 qualify for the final in Berlin).

Videos! Uploaded them yesterday unto Putfile. Might take some time before they are viewable (I know, Putfile is crap).
