Mercedes SLR could have a successor ![]() Supercar of the union of McLaren with Mercedes, the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren can have the counted days, according to affirms Martin Whitmarsh de McLaren. The low indices of sales could suppose an incentive to create a new one more to supercar, this time with the name of McLaren, and looking for the reputation that obtained McLaren F1. The in charge factory would be the same one that at the moment constructs to the cars of the Formula the 1 and SLR, the McLaren’s Working Center, located in London.

Re: Mercedes SLR could have a successor i still don't get the "low indices of sales".....when i went on a tour of the mclaren technology centre the slr section was packed.....they had slr bodys like in the corridor waiting to go in to the main room...... although selling in small amounts is not that bad because i suppose it means the buyers will get higher prices if they ever sell them haaaa!!!!

Re: Mercedes SLR could have a successor I think anything close to the McLaren F1 in design philosophy and performance would cease to be a Mercedes-Benz, so if they pull it off right I'll be the first to give them props (since I like them least among German manufacturers).

Re: Mercedes SLR could have a successor Well I'm not surprised the SLR is not selling all that well. The truth is, Mercedes-Benz, although a great manufacturer, is not in the business of building "dream cars" or supercars - Mercedes re-built it's [post-war] reputation by making practical luxury cars (with a couple of notable exceptions) for a relatively conservative market - The successor to the SLR should not be named a Mercedes, but rather just McLaren (as the article suggests) - this alone will help the cars image. Mercedes should leave this market to Pagani, Ferrari, and Porsche - they just do it better. Last edited by SDNR; 01-26-2006 at 09:59 PM..

Re: Mercedes SLR could have a successor I'll believe it when I see pictures of it testing. Untill then all it is is just speculation that sounds suspiciously like the P8 project.
