AutoWeek Drives The Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Black Series

To the select few of you in the market for Mercedes' new SLK 55 AMG Black Series, AutoWeek has published their first impressions of the latest SLK model, offering a brief look as to what sets the Black Series apart from it's non-colored brother.

As expected, main differences stem from the SLK 55 Black Series' extensive weight saving properties, including the omission of the standard SLK's Vario-roof system. The result is an increase in handling properties, slightly better performance figures, all wrapped in a package costing EUR 107,300 (about $137,000).

Worth it? Probably not, but at least you can tell your friends you own one of only 100 SLK Black Series in existence. If that doesn't get you laid, nothing will.

There are much cheaper, easier ways to get laid

Re: AutoWeek Drives The Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Black Series

At that price about 100 is all they could sell. I like everything about this car except the price. A 137K SLK makes it more expensive than some very serious cars that can smoke it in speed and handling. Tough sell to all but the most devoted AMG buyers.

I'm waiting for the official word though about the U.S. market. My guess is that with a production run so small, they won't bother (or spend the $$$) to certify it for U.S. sale.

I'm with you guys. For that money, I'd take the upcoming StingRay and maybe an 130i.

Just think if the SLK55 Black Series costs that much more over the standard SLK55 AMG what is the CLK63 Black Series going to cost? My god I don't want to even think about it, though it may be even more customized/changed from the standard CLK63 going by the spy pics, but gee whiz.

Anyway, that said....make no mistake my "fantasy garage" list in the Pit thread has been updated to include one of these "special" SLK55s. It is afterall a rich man's car, not even close to being a logical purchase.
