The design of the 265-kW/360-hp eight-cylinder roadster is based on the SLK 55 AMG safety car, which ensured maximum safety throughout the 2004 and 2005 Formula 1 seasons.

I don't know if anybody noticed but the hood is actually a carbon-fibre composite to make the car lighter and also read from somewhere else that the car has near perfect weight distribution of 48-52 with an 80l fuel tank in the trunk.

I always reckoned, that if Mercedes-Benz had made the SL65 AMG, lighter, with a carbon fiber roof, lightweight parts such as aluminum front wings and so. But mostly, without all the Electronic limiter stuff. Then they wouldn't need to spend millions, developing the Mclaren SLR.

The SL65 may be heavier, but, it's got much more torque than the SLR. And I really do think, that despite the Automatic gearbox and the 4.200 Ibs. I really do think, the SL65 AMG can match the SLR in acceleration. In fact, I think, the SL65 may be faster from 0 to 60mph, than the 4 seconds promised by MB.

Looks like this kit will be offered as an option from AMG. I'm doubting we will see it in North America though...

I was thinking the same thing, but we started getting tall those performance packages on certain AMG models so I think we'll get this too if it makes it into production. The new head at AMG talked about a "Track Series" group of cars in a recent interview and I think the SLK would be the perfect car to start such a series with. I suspect it won't happen until the SLK63 comes around for the 2008-9 SLK facelift.
