| Re: California Picture Thread Hey buddy I live in Pasadena and trust me its not dumpy.... WOw, you really have an ignorant view of Los Angelos. MAybe you should come here and make your own decision instead of what some ignoramous told you. LA is the most ethnically dynamic and culturally dynamic place in the world and still maintains its own unique character. Of course their are bad parts but those are few and far between....And Pasadena happens to be one of the homes of the most expensive real estate in Southern California. Think before you type. Please. | Re: California Picture Thread I'm sorry, LA is a dump. It's a sprawling and awe inspiring dump - but a dump nonetheless, whose reputation vastly outpaces reality. I live in the Marina Del Rey area, and I tell you, never has such a dive been imbued with such a false sense of grandeur. Of course, I've been able to laminate myself from traffic by living right next to the office, so I've somewhat innoculated myself from the torture that assults most LA residents on a daily basis. For those of you who commute, I don't know how you handle it. I put up with that crap for about 4 years of my young adult life and called it quits. I'll stick my neck out for Pasadena though. I'm always happy when I'm dropping through that way. Nice area with lots of LA'esque charm. But don't even get me started about that 134 and 210 in the afternoon! Last time I went that way I was ready to murder anybody who crossed my path. It's tough to paint one picture of LA because there's so many microcommunities scattered about, each with its own set of social morés and traffic patterns. What seems like a nice neighborhood can become a crummy neighborhood when you turn a corner. At least the weather is great if you live next to the coast. No complaints here. Inner LA is another story. It gets cookin'. |

| Re: California Picture Thread Yes I will admit that the freeways in LA are a bit crowded and exasperating at times but if you know traffic tricks and when to go on what freeway at what time youll be fine. For instance you never take the 210 east during the afternoon because everyone lives in the boonies and has to commute on the 210 west in the morning. So instead you take the 210 west in the afternoon and the 210 east bound in the morning. There are certainly great parts of LA. Hancock park as well as griffith park, west wood, or even down town can all be great. It all depends on if you know where to go. Today I was at manhattan beach which is an awesome place to go and avoided pretty much all traffic. Just know where to go at what times. I have to commute to the valley every day which gets tiring but if you can navigate yourself your good to go. |

| Re: California Picture Thread It's all a matter of where you work, where you can live and your frame of reference. There's gobs of people in LA who live in sheer misery with their day to day routine, and there's other people who gleefully tune out their ridiculous commute, sit back and enjoy the weather. I got used to living in Berlin and LA is starting to drive me up a wall, despite the fact that I landed a "couldn't ask for more" job in a decent part of town. I just miss the street life and the sense of community, of which LA has none - although I'm sure there's plenty of folks who would beg to differ. Of course, LA is pretty bitchin' if you have conspicuously deep pockets, but right now not even a mild fortune can buy you the good life. I'm sure that'll change in a couple years' time. Of course, speaking about LA as a city is erroneous in and of itself. The place is just too damn huge and spread out. Certain parts really turn me on, and other parts achieve a level of sheer ugliness that defies the imagination. Still - the amount of time Angelinos are willing to rot away in their cars on a regular basis is astounding. I'm surprised we haven't had trafic riots by now. |
