Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

Nice car man. You've kept it in good condition. I've seen some good deals on 928 and 944 here but unfortunately the insurance will rape me. LOL good to see you have a good car to enjoy!

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

Thanks

You're right - there are some good 944 and 928 deals. But mostly the mileage of those cars is crazy - or they're wrecked. So take care if you eventually decide to buy a Porsche ... . The insurance isn't the main part - spare parts, inspection ... gosh. This was the reason to replace it in 2004 (with a 996 Carrera).

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

Cool Pekka.

I am very familiar with these cars ...my dad had one in the early 1990s -- many people think they are strange-looking when they first see one ....they look like no other car.

Nice car. There are cheap used ones going for sale now, but the maintenance will kill, so I crossed it out of my mind.

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

@Mirage >> It wasn't too cheap (since it had only 28.600 kilometers on the odometer )

@Donau >> The 928 was replaced by a fullly loaded 996 Carrera (MJ '03 - facelift version). But I'm still missing the V8 ...

BTW - do you own a RUF Porsche? Still dreaming 'bout a Yellowbird. In the early 90s (94?) I was on a very nice private party in Alois Ruf's mini-castle, close to Pfaffenhausen (because his ex-stepson was a friend of mine). This was the time when I got infected with the Ruf virus ...

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

Thanks Pekka! Good to hear about the 996 Carrera having been the replacement.
Actually, I just re-read your above posts and noticed that
I had missed some info because of not reading all the way to the right...
my bad, sorry about that...

My car is (was) a RUF BTR conversion with a Porsche VIN.
I say (was) in parenthesis because I have modified the
engine so thoroughly you could not really say it is exactly
like the RUF BTRs were. Cosmetically yes, it is still a RUF
and I have taken little out that was specific to RUF but
I do have Motec M48 instead of CIS now and other
modifications as well.

The place that performed my modifications have a yellow bird,
can't remember the number, but it was authentic. Again, I say
was because they have pretty much modified the internals to be
an almost 800hp monster instead.

Interesting to hear about your personal connection to the RUF family.
I hear Alois Ruf is a very friendly and personable guy.

I can imagine you still missing the 928. They were just drop dead gorgeous
cars. But you got a great replacement

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread

Yes, Alois Ruf is a real car guy. And the current model lineup (e.g. the affordable R 3400 K) are great! It's not really a personal connection to him, but it was very interesting to see his home (and all the cars in his garage). Sometimes I think about buying a G-model as an affordable basis for a RUF (retro) conversion. But I don't know if this would be suitable for daily use?!

The modifications on your BTR are still awesome. Since when do you own it? Obviously, you're a real enthusiast

BTW - at the moment I'm thinking about a Cayman or a white 993 C4S (since the 996 was replaced by a BMW E93 Convertible this year - and this car is way too heavy). A white 993 C4S equipped with black techart rims ... the last 'real' Porsche ...
