Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread Thanks Pekka I have owned this car since March 28, 2006...so I am pretty new to the Porsche world. If you remember any of the cars in Alois Ruf's garage it would be great to hear about them...even just some of them... I have test driven a Cayman once and it is truly a beautifully handling car. In this area where I test drive cars there is one particular spot where there are railway lines on top of a little hump. It is bad enough that cars usually really make you feel those lines, for example my previous cars (MB E320) felt like something just broke when going over those things. Not the Cayman though; it just felt like being in a little submarine module and experiencing a slight underwater wave go by. It is an awesome car. However, a white 993 C4S equipped with black techart rims might still be my choice regardless of the great handling, just because as you said: it is part of the last aircooled Porsche family and a very special car. Tough choice but I might end up with the 993 instead because of emotional reasons. The Cayman would no doubt be the more practical choice.

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread Donau, sorry for the late reply. I needed some days off so I decided to drive to Switzerland. Meanwhile I visited the Porsche Centre close to the place where I live. They have a green Cayman in the showcase which looks very 997-GT3-esque . Hah ... actually I decided to drive my Bimmers for a further year. Then I have to decide between a sports car (Cayman, 993?) or a SUV (RR Sport or X5/6 since I don't accept the Cayenne as a real Porsche - sorry for that, Wendelin). You're totally right when you talk about emotional reasons (993) and practical use (Cayman). Whenever I sit in an aircooled P (doesn't matter if F-model, G-model, 964 or 993) - I think back to the late 80s / early 90s when I choosed the G-model for a test drive in Test Drive (the Commodore 64 / Amiga game). This was the moment I felt in love. And I fall in love again whenever I see the dashboard - and hear the aircooled cat in the rear ... ![]() Thanks for the Finnish-thread . Unfortunately I have to admit that I'm not Finnish. I'm a native, lound and ugly Germ with a Finnish background (that's the reason for my nic - my Finnish uncle Börje used to call me Pekka since my real name sounds kinda similar).Edit: Forgot to tell you about the cars in Alois Ruf's garage. It's not too easy to remember but I saw some 356' and a 550 (?!).. Last edited by Pekka; 08-06-2007 at 06:30 AM..

Re: Porsche 928 Picture Thread Thanks Pekka! German with a Finnish background makes for a pretty good combination I'm sure you are familiar with the recent history of the two nations. My grandfather's cousins whose last name was Sihvo trained in Germany among the first group of Jaegers. The oldest of them whose name was Aarne became the commander of the Finnish Armed forces twice (before and after Mannerheim - who was considered a Russian Tsarist General, because he was) in the early part of the 1900 century. In those early days they also tried to get a German prince to become the king of Finland. Anyhow, amazing to hear about the 550's in Alois Ruf's garage. The other day I asked my engine builder what that red car was in the corner of his shop. He said it's just a kit model of a 550 Spyder and that if it was a real one he'd sell it and start working for free. Yes, there's just something about the air cooled cars. I am obviously very biased but heck, they are hard to beat. I mean yes, the new GT3's are tighter, handle better etc etc. But you can mod the air cooled cars to be much faster than the stock new ones, although I don't think one would ever be able to get close to the handling capabilities of the new cars no matter how hard one would try to mod your car. But....with the new ones there is always the issue that the next model is going to be a lot better than the previous one again while the air cooled cars are what they are and their numbers are diminishing and they don't make them anymore. ![]()
