| Re: Highway to hell Yep, looks pretty interesting but as has been stated, still understandable if it's way out there somewhere in the eastern regions of Siberia. Just for some perspective, (especially since I think a couple of guys here know this road) the distance between the two Finnish cities of Turku and Helsinki is approx 165km (~100miles). I believe in a year or two that whole distance is connected by a "Motor way or road" which in the US would be comparable to a freeway or Interstate. In other words the distance will be a snap to cover in 1.5-2 hours. In 1960, as a 6 year old, I travelled with my father from Turku to Helsinki to pick up my father's brand new "Donau". We got a ride in a family friends' Rover. The trip along the mostly winding dirt-road with pot holes etc took 5 - 6 hours. Now, 1960 was not all that long time ago, and the roads have improved dramatically. So, who knows, maybe these remote Russian roads will also improve in a few more years.... |

Also, the city is "expensive" because of places like hotels, casinos and what not. It also depends where you live. If you live in a house, it will be insanely expensive. Apartments, not so much. P.S. Just speaking from personal experience, lived there for 5 years and loved it! ![]() | |
