Hardtop vs. softop

OK, so we all live in different parts of the world, which would be a primary factor in deciding whether or not to purchase a hardtop/softop. However, I'm sure there may also be those of us that prefer less weight in our cars and having a hardtop would pose more a hinderance in our driving fun than otherwise. So please, spill your comments and make your thoughts known. VOTE!!!

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

Hardtops are more preferable lately but they are adding more weight and affecting the design as the rear part has to be longer so the proportions are not "right".

That said i have no problem with both. I wouldn't mind a VW Eos or a A4 cabrio.

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

For me I'd rather have a hardtop for reasons of driving dynamics. Once you have added metal that easily disappears in a matter of seconds overhead you eliminate any possiblity of scuttle shake, and you're driving a car that's more/slightly less rigid than a coupe. I wonder if Audi has plans for a hardtop coupe/convertible???

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

TT roadster and A3 cabrio will both be softtop. As for the A4 cabrio replacement (A5 cabrio) both solutions are under consideration.

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

Hardtop for me, all the way! Cars with softop look pretty bad, I mean just look at F430 Spider when the top is on, especially if it's in some light color! That's just one example!

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

If I'm buying a roadster or a sport open top car then soft top is the only choice for me.

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

for me i would go with hardtop

but sometimes it also depends on the car, the location your in and the weather
if ur in a sunny region with little rain then u'll have the top down all the time anyway so softtop will be better for that

Re: Hardtop vs. softop

Hmm, it is a very hard desicion.
If i had only on car, and it had to be between a hardtop (coupe?) and a softop, it would definitely be a hardtop for many reasons, including driving dynamics, practicity and other.

But if i already had a car, that i can travel with and go to work, then i would take a softop for fun...
