Personal Big News / Big Thank You!

Hey Everybody. Good to see that lots of the GCF regulars are hanging out here now. I really like how these forums are set up.

I know some of you were following my daydream 325 vs 330 thread over at the GermanCarForums. When we left off, I was leaving Berlin, and looking for quality work in the LA area.

Well, thanks to you guys, and countless hours spent blabbering about automotive nonsense over at GCF, I've found my dream job! No joke!

I'll be working as the Art Director / Marketing and Production guy at the Marina del Rey branch of AMCI. They're a large automotive marketing and testing firm that conceptualizes and deploys local promotional events for brands and their vehicles. One specific example some of you may know of is the "Taste of Lexus" event, where guests take the RX300 on an off-road track and engage in generally snooty activities.

Since I'm working in AMCI's west-coast office, I'll be working with the following brands:
• Mercedes-Benz
• Maybach
• Lexus
• Mitsubishi
• Volvo
• Saab
• Toyota
• Scion
• Nissan

Basically, the only brands that DON'T work with AMCI at the moment are Honda and BMW. Both companies are ridin' high and don't feel as though they need the service. I'm sure both will come around eventually - especially Honda.

In any case, I really owe the GCF regulars a huge thank you. My portfolio got me in the door, but it the massive well of ridiculous car knowledge that locked me in for the job. I wouldn't have been able to wow these guys if it wasn't for my ability to BS about "The W220 vs the W221 platforms" and the "capabilities of the E90." You guys have forced me to think critically about brands and marketing, and over the past 3 years I've picked up a sense how the auto biz works, and how it's best served.

It goes without saying that this will be my dream job. I'll be conceptualizing drive events and I'll be designing/producing all the visuals that accompany them, be it banners, brochures or websites. Not only will I be brushing elbows with industry big-shots, but I'll also be privy to a certain amount of insider knowledge.

Better yet.... I can afford that 330i now! ( Think I'll wait for the '07s though )

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL! I never thought I'd land a spot in the auto biz, but you guys inadvertently made it happen.

Hey Osna, good to hear things are going well!

We've been keen to hear from you, and that's just great news. And all along I was here thinking that these forums were just a profitless time sink! j/k

So when do you start work?

Re: Personal Big News / Big Thank You!

Awsome, I have always thought you made good arguments about cars and such even though I was only at GCF for a short time till they made the move. If you want a 330i talk to me because my dad happens to be a dealer out in LA. I'm pretty sure I can get you a good deal! But great Job anyway And good luck with that.

Do you have a marketing degree?
