If one wants to allow that the simple cosmetic modification of a roof is enough to warrant the "coupe" name, then I have no problems with that. However, if you have a 4-door sedan and simply lower the roofline, is that enough to call it a "coupe"? Most classic car organizations as well as government entities involved in vehicle classification would think not. There is no reason to think Rover is no more capable of creative marketing tactics than MB or BMW. But thanks for clarifying that MB (and Mazda) were not the first.

And rumoured Audi will also join both of them with the A7.

The CLS is also source of inspiration for the new Jaguar XF's styling, Opel admitted they took inspiration on the CLS for the styling of the Vectra replacement.
Here is the big difference between the X5 and the CLS. No one is rushing to build a X5 duplicate. Looking at this VW is clear the the CLS is the target for nearly exact duplication right down the shape/styling/looks.

Why build another X5 SUV when there are already plenty of different brands offering a SUV. A 4-door coupe is rare sight and we will see more of them in a future but there comes a time when someone will invent another type of vechicle that others will follow.
