| Re: What I Believe For me right now it would be a CLS500. The shape and interior of this car just blows me away. Brand of course it is Mercedes-Benz. However I've liked German cars for about 20 years now, long before I could drive. There was always something "correct" about them. The seats, design etc. All European cars share this to a degree I think, but Germans cars standout to me. What drew me to Mercedes back in the mid-eighties was the engineering details. That single-blade wiper, the springy construction of the seats, the different size driver and passenger side rear-view mirrors, the exhaust slots in the right front fender of the W124 E-Class diesel models. The W140 S and R129 SL also display this philosphy vividly. Was there ever a car so engrained in the mind of luxury car buyers during its production run as the W126? This is when Mercedes was run soley by the engineering department and only they knew why these details existed. They seem to be coming back around to being engineering driven with their latest models, but with some they've just given in to market demands, but that is another subject. I don't think German cars have passion compared to Italian cars, but they do have it compared to American or expecially Asian cars. What I also like is how the Germans sets the standards in the luxury car market. Mercedes and BMW worldwide, along with Audi in Europe. No one is striving to build a Cadillac or Lexus, they're all trying to build a BMW or Mercedes. I also like how MB, BMW and Audi (with some exceptions) pretty much stick to their philosphy on the automobile. They are heritage rich companies that all draw on this for inspiration in their present-day cars. M |

I'm not American, but I have always liked German and Italian cars very much but also Rolls-Royce and Bentley. I have always liked several classic American cars and some old French cars too. As for passion, well I really think older English and Italian cars are more passionate than German ones - but the awesome build quality and the engineering is what I admire most about the German cars. | |
