Who is the best driver? I had a conversation with some friends before about what type of driver is considered the best. After much talking and arguments we came up with our desicion: "The one who uses the brake as least as possible!!" I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas! Personally i have some arguments and examples to back up my opinion! Can't wait to discuss! ![]()

Re: Who is the best driver? I agree with your homeboys. Good drivers brake very little. Watch a video of spectacular Walter Röhl driving a Porsche around the ring. He brakes very little before the bend and slides through them preserving as much speed as possible.

Re: Who is the best driver? I agree. The driver, either on the track or on the freeway, who is able to accomplish their task with the least amount of footwork is the better driver. I'm sure we've all driven with inexperienced and poor drivers. They're always gunning the gas and then mashing the brakes. A good driver will let physics do it's thing and will incur the least amount of wear and tear on the car.

Re: Who is the best driver? I totally agree. Then less braking you do the more perfected you become. Plus anyone who can get around a crowd with little or no effort.

Re: Who is the best driver? Right!! I hate those people, that say..."one or two beer are okay..."! I would never drink and drive. ![]() But I have also agree with the others. Less braking is one of the things, that the "best driver" should perform. Walter Röhrl make also a point doing to drive curves with little steering as possible. ![]()

Re: Who is the best driver? Define "better driver". Is this in terms of a passive, defensive-driving road user aiming to optimise fuel economy or a flat out racing driver? The contrast between the two techniques is more like a chasm. The assertion that a good driver doesn't use their brakes is incorrect if we're talking performance / precision driving. All racing drivers use their brakes all the time; with both feet if they're really up there... If you want to see footwork, then you'd be well advised to watch more footage of Walter Rohrl.
