If a person buying a 88K S550 can't afford some options then they can't afford the S550 at all. Whether or not they can afford the sports package is irrelevent once you're shopping in this area, provided you can afford the basic car. The average S550 goes out the door for 90K as Feb of this year in the U.S. market. Anyone who can afford a 88K S550 can afford another 5-10 or in some cases 15K in options. No such thing as not being able to afford the AMG package with an S, CL or SL for that matter.

I have to disagree with this... I always find the S-Class looking uncompleted without the AMG package.

I don't have a problem with the S class without the AMG package, even with the AMG extras it's still a mass-produced luxury car in the end. The thing is, none of these cars really inspire me greatly, they are all very nice but not cars I dream about owning.

I personally think the AMG kit adds to the car, sure, but I think the car looks good without it as well. I think the colour and rims are more important to the car's looks!

Well, I'm sure it deserved it, it is indeed a very good car, and considering it came out in 2006, and the S class in 2005, I suppose it won due to coming out that year!

Although looking at what else won I don't think I agree with these people. The TT won design of the year, no way!!! Although the E320 bluetec did well to win green car of the year, and the RS4 winning performance car of the year!

Um...How? The LS has been kicked in the face in nearly every test that had it matched up with the W221. It's not even that cheap anymore compared to when the LS400 launched. Blah.

I would have picked the Mini.
