| Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning* I am right here my friend ![]() What a beautiful plane we have here. That is indeed the A340-500. I bet that was a wonderful flight for you. A long one to say the least, but wonderful. Where did you seat? How was the landing and takeoff? Man I have not flown in an A340 yet, but I will. Very nice ![]() Where was this taken? I can’t figure out where you took this: ![]() I really like this picture. This seems like that type of picture you would see at istockphoto.com. Very good stuff to say the least. I like that you chose to either take it in BW or make it BW. The court being empty actually gives the court some sort of life. You can imagine how many people have played there and what their thoughts were in reference to life, losing, winning, girls, guys, cars, money, etc. ![]() Words cannot describe how powerful this picture is. Times square alone is known for its mega signs and size. Nevertheless, this picture really speaks for itself. Good stuff. Did you use a tripod for this or just bump up the ISO? ![]() Love it! ![]() Ahh the United Nations buildling. I have never been there myself but I have heard great things. I guess it is a good thing that they will revamp this place and do away with the asbestos. ![]() Is this dress some sort of AIDS awareness campaign that the UN had going when you were there or in relation to AIDS? Very creative and I would have never known it was made out of condoms. ![]() Security Council ![]() This is a very beautiful picture. I really like the meaning behind it. Very nice whomever was behind such a beautiful piece and objective ![]() Is this from the World Trade Center bombings? Or am I mistaking this with another piece that was in front of the WTO? ![]() Does this have anything to do with the USSR? ![]() Very good perspective here ![]() I myself am wondering what this is as well ![]() Zeus ![]() Atlas ![]() Ahhhh New York New York!!! I like this picture a lot. At an angle it shows the roof tops of these places and gives you the New York feel of history and it being old. ![]() What a shame that they did not let you take pictures. ![]() I really like the pictures and the perspectives from which they were taken. I think this was an excellent job. |

| Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning* Mirage I am one of the biggest learners in this forum. I admire your photography greatly and would never profess to be better. To be COMPLETELY HONEST I learn so much from you, jeff, audiholic, jack, and the rest. We have so many talented people that it just makes things so much better. The knowledge base we have here and the passion for photography is just incredible. I have not participated in the photo comps because I have been busy, but wait until I come back from my trip to Canada . Nevertheless, my point in mentioning this is that I have been looking and not one photo dissapoints. You would expect a member to send a picture that was just horrible, but I have yet to see one. So, with that said thank you for the comliments and the gesture I truly feel very welcomed and apprecaited, however, I am just a learner like you. I learn from your pictures quite a lot. I can't wait to go back to NY. By the way, in mentioning something rather funny for me is that you mention your seating. You were in executive economy. I love how airlines have all changed the name of economy to make it sound better. Economy in practice still exists but the name does not. It seems that the trend now is to move the aircraft as a slight upgrade and not a totally different class. This would explain why, for the most part, economy, business, and first class no longer go by those names but distinct names with words like executive. |

Thank you for your compliments as well, much appreciated. Yes, it's really interesting about those names. I think Thai Airways calls its First Class Royal First Class. Certainly gives it a more personal touch.

| Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning* Thanks for the pictures James, look great! Reminds me of when I've been to NY in the past, and like you I love the city. My life dream is actually to move to NY one day, l like it that much. Interestingly ground zero hasn't changed much since I was last there. Where did you stay? |

I stayed at Best Western and also at some obscure inn which was great value for money. For both hotels we paid about USD100 a night, which is a steal in NYC.

| Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning* Ha, I thought you were talking about THAT building (One Times Square), sorry my mistaken. To answer your questions, it's the AT&T Long Lines Building (American Telephone & Telegraph Long Lines Building) in Soho. (Year/Architect : 1974/John Carl Warnecke). To me it looks like a jail cell holding all the prisoners. There's no windows in this tower and it holds all the electronic equipment for the phone company, and was designed to resist nuclear fallout and was to be provided with enough energy and food strorage to keep it self-sufficient for two weeks' operation. The heat is provided by the telephone equipment itself, kind of unique. ![]() Last edited by Hibiki; 01-08-2007 at 05:09 PM.. |
