Photographers

Just wondering if any of you guys have favorite photographers from the past or present.

If you can post a link to a gallery or webpage of theirs and maybe some examples you like.

I'll start with this guy who has some cool shots, David J Nightingale

Re: Photographers

Gus Gregory, he's not a studio photographer, he's one of the photographer's for EVO magazine. He always takes amazing shots and here's my favourite (it's from a scan so it's not that clear)

Andy Morgan from EVO is great as well.

Re: Photographers

Edward Steichen. He was a marvelous large format photographer but it is his relationship to Naval Photography that is of interest. Here is a short item I found about his Navy time. He also published a book of his Navy images.

Washington, D.C., was the headquarters of most U.S. Navy photographic activities during World War II. Continuing a distinguished history of naval photography, hundreds of cameramen, including Edward Steichen and his team of professional photographers, fanned out from Washington to document both the European and Pacific theaters. They shot millions of still and motion pictures, and sent them back to various facilities, especially the Naval Photographic Science Laboratory at Anacostia. There, hundreds of men and women worked around the clock to generate images that would inspire both their military commanders and the American people with the prowess of the U.S. Navy in warfare.

I spent 11 years out of my 20 year Navy career (1951-1971) at the Naval Photographic Center (then called the Naval Photographic Science Laboratory) and now called the Navy Media Center. Steichen was one of the orginal Navy "combat photographers."

Re: Photographers

I like quite a few that have already been mentioned here before, especially Ansel Adams' work. Here are two of my favourites:

Michael Kenna. His photo's from Hokkaido, Japan a few years back are just beautiful.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand. His 'Earth from the Air' project really give an awe-inspiring look into the world in which we live in.
