I know Roberto may have something to say on this but who knows.

In purchasing an external hard drive recently I was exposed to the brand by the name of Lacie. They seem to be a very good reputable brand for hardrives and have a very distinct approach to design.

On their website they show differnt types of websites which apparently have been designed by different artists. Take a look

Ha, great ....even if it is only cosmetic.

They have some big names there -- Karim Rashid has become a really big name in the international design industry ....I find his work looks all too often like Barbie doll accessories.

Ora-Ito is a personal favourite designer of mine, he started his career by setting up a website where he designed fantasy products for big name manufacturers of all types of different products -- they were companies that he wished he could design products for -- people started seeing his work and were asking where they could buy these products from -- eventually some of the manufacturers decided to produce some of his designs ..big name companies like Artemide and Louis Vuitton - this kind of audacity is pure Generation Y -- he could very easily have been sued ..his great talent saved him from that.

I found it very interesting that there were designers involved with the hard drives in the first place. Do you happen to know who Porsche is? Is that Stuggart?

Porsche Design is a company started in the 1970's by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the original 911 and grandson of the founder of Porsche and designer of the original VW (Ferdinand Porsche). They design all sorts of very stylish and expensive objects like pens, sunglasses, watches, Traveling luggage, furniture, and appliances -- they only work with manufacturers they feel share their philosophies and commitment to excellence in design. They are not in Stuttgart ...I think they are based somewhere in Austria.

I noticed one of them has 2.5TBs, who needs that sort of storage! Secondly who needs that amount of storage portable??

2.5tbs is a lot. To be honest with you I am not sure what I am going to do with 250gb.

Those things would be cool if they were integrally network capable, er, ie. they can plug straight in to a network. As far as I know, not many are, just yet.

Some of those ones aren't really portable-in-your-pocket, more like in your backpack or in your car. Still, good for people who transport video and other media. I can't think of anything else that could even come close to filling 300GB, let alone 2.5TB.
