Interestingly modern and western city of Teheran

I don't usuall read the OT topics on Rennlist but this one caught my eye and not knowing anything much about Teheran or Iran, except from my old history classes at school and the publicity about Iran over the last couple of decades, first it was all about the Shah's beautiful wife, and after the "revolution", the news have been somewhat of a different nature.
Anyhow, politics aside, I was amazed to learn that this city is bigger than NYC and looks very modern and westernized:

The cars look pretty much the same but I saw a few classics there too....

Interesting thread donau.

I have seen this tower before...I'm not sure if it has been finished yet ..but it is really beautiful.

Islamic architecture has influenced western architecture for hundreds of years.

Yeah right. Like for example president Mahmud Ahmadinejad has banned western and other inappropriate music to be played in government tv and radio. Just another fascist muslim state.
