Re: The weight lifting thread.

Steroids and Shots. Get big real quick....

Other than that just hard work.

I used to weight lift in my late teens into my early 20's.

The gym was nice and had many huge professional lifters from the Carribean.

I used to work out with them, and put in 2 hours daily 5 to 6 days a week.

I benched 510lbs by myself two reps.

I back pressed about 1100lbs.

And leg pressed a ton. (Full 45lb. plates on both sides and a 120 lb girl sitting on top of the machine).

i wish i had pic's of me at that time. Shirts barely fit over my upper arms.

Shoulders were sliced and were huge as my back was. I also used to swim so that helped too.

My problem was i never had the size like the guys i worked out with, i had thier respect but not the size. They were bigger than me by at least 1 1/2 times my width, but i pulled nearly as much weight as they did.

I used too wish i could get steroids at the time. But i couldn't, so i took Creatine and Phospogane (both a waste). Currently have issues with my liver and im pretty sure it has something to do with that Creatine powder crap i was taking.

Basically unless you take some serious steriod like stuff, you will only be as big as your body was made to be genetically.

I was never slim and never had a six pack, but i weighed 220lbs and was rock hard. I stopped working out due too time, and trully regret it.

Currently i still weigh between 220-230 lbs, but now the weight shows. When i worked out i looked like i was barely pushing 190lbs except the parts of my body that were bulked up.

Dont know what you were looking for as a response in this thread, but thats my story.

As for advice, work hard, eat right, Cardio is key, and not heavy weights just lots of rep's like 20 reps per whatever your working out (each arm/leg). Dont have to go really heavy, I used to shoulder press with dumbells, on average 90lb-110lb dumb bells (10 reps), sitting up right on the bench and lifting straight up over my head both arms at the same time connecting, and bringing down my elbows to shoulder length.

All i can say,is i would have been good at 70lb weights and did more reps. Didnt need to go so high in weights. It would have been the same result with less chance of messing up my rotater cuff, which once it breaks its OVER!!!! Very thin little sheet on your shoulder.

Re: The weight lifting thread.

Thx Alx,
Im naturally very thin but really enjoy working out. Definitely not as hard core as that, though. I am taking creatine and have seen small gains but stopped out of pure laziness to take it. I havent touched roids just because it seems like thats a place most people dare not go. Lately I get into physical plateaus, that are tough to push past. So I try more weight and less reps, or less weight and more reps.... I dont even know...

Less reps and more weight is the right way to go, though it important that you are able to do proper reps. When I was younger I was Paris hilton thin and no matter how much I ate barely increased in size. I happen to have a so called "black hole" in my stomach. Sometimes when I have eaten like a pig I decrease in weight instead of the opposite.
The truth is that I had to lift weights if I want to gain weight or size. I have been working out on a regular basis for about 3-4 years now. To be honest I'm very pleased with current body size and right now I'm on a mission to loose some bodyfat, although I don't have that much. I'm really not the type of guy who wants to be bigger than Mike Tyson. For me it is all about being sexy, look fit and be able to fit in normal clothes.
After I have lost some of my bodyfat I'll look like the dude below, tough with slightly larger breasts.

Re: The weight lifting thread.

Hey Matt.

I did a google search for "ectomorph" and came up with this article from bodybuilding.com that should point you in the right direction:

- ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

At the end of the day, it's very difficult to drive against your genetics. When I was about your age, I'd work out alot and I'd eat like a pig, but I still wouldn't make the physical type of gains that I was looking for. I had the metabolism of a hummingbird, and anything that entered my stomach instantly vaporized.

It's funny - now that I'm older and my metabolism has slowed down, I'm able to put on the pounds like I never could 10 years ago. So moral of the story - work on it, but at the end of the day your body will do the talking.

Re: The weight lifting thread.

I weigh 160lbs and am 6'1"...so you can see i am pretty thin. I have tried weight gainer, protein powder, eating like a pig, etc etc. but nothing really works. It took my like 6 months of working three times a week to gain 10 pounds. I honestly see much more appearence and strength differences than weight difference . But like osna says, its all about your matabolism and your genetics.

Re: The weight lifting thread.

hey guys. AlxAmg you have an amazing story, benching 510lbs is crazy, plus a tone of leg press.

and matt, currently i bench 210 lbs or 95kgs, 8 rep per set for 3 sets. I don't really work on my legs cause my knees are injury prone. For me the weight gain isn't as important as strength gain, but yeah my weight has been leveled on 79kg/174lbs for about a year now. i am 5'7" but i was a fat kid to begin with, so i am always around 70kg even before going to the gym. I don't take any protein or other supplements, i just eat normally, imo eating right is more important than taking supplements.

When u say you have reached the physical plateau do u mean u cannot gain more weight or u can't really increase the weights u are lifting? For me when i reached the plateau i will get a friend along with me in the gym to help out so i can push myself that little bit more without killing myself. I try to do more weights with the same reps, it works for me, not sure if it works for you.

one last thing, how often do u go to the gym?

Re: The weight lifting thread.

Wow Alex, you were powerful!
Matt, I was always a thin kid too ..and hated it. It is important not to develop a negative body image though. Be positive, eat properly, get lots of rest, and keep lifting ..even if you plateau for a while, you will be getting stronger.

I go two to three times a week. I have a friend I go with often. When I say plateau I mean that I stop gaining (or gain very little at a time) in strength or in weight...
