Posh Russian community bans Russian made cars

MOSCOW (AFP) - A posh housing complex in Moscow has banned Russian-made cars because they are too noisy and get in the way of the area's rich inhabitants.
The Zolotye Klyuchi 2 (Golden Keys 2) complex issued a statement on its website saying that Russian-made cars, such as the infamous Lada, pose "a significant danger to the environment, creating high noise levels."
According to the Golden Keys management, Russian cars are also responsible for "traffic jams on the territory of the complex."
Visitors in such cars are banned, unless they are on delivery to residents or belong to the emergency services.
Rich Russians invariably prefer BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus and other top-range imports. But if there are any eccentric tycoons still holding on to a rattling Russian brand, they can -- as long as no one sees it.
"Don't park such vehicles in the street," Golden Keys insists. "Put them in the underground parking."
Golden Keys consists of three apartment blocks boasting office space, a restaurant, gym and 24-hour security in the prestigious south-west of Moscow, considered to be one of the less polluted areas of the Russian capital.
Such is the desire for order within its exclusive gates that even minor parking mistakes are photographed and displayed on the in-house website under the title: "transgressors."

Haha. There was a time, not too long ago, when the words "Russian" and "ballistic" being used in the same sentence would trigger an international incident.

isn't this kind of unpatriotic or anti-trade or something ? I know LADAs are crap but still, coming from their own folks..its a bit weird.

They should be proud on LADA..IMO LADA have some decent cars for rough weather conditions(Lada Niva,for example) and IMO I can bet that some better reputation cars would fail where LADA functions with no problems.

True, but imagine banning a Renault from Champs Elysees, 'cause its the swankiest place in Paris, and a Renault compares nowhere with the stuff you see on that road

Nothing against Renault fans but it just doesn't compare with the RRs and the Maybachs..

Sorry if I touched a raw nerve, but that's my point....its just crazy banning cars from a place, 'cause they are not posh.
