That used to be true, old Ladas were some of the better cold-weather cars around (hence, there were quite a few around in rural Finland before the Soviet Union collapsed and the Russians bought most of them back) but apparently the newer models (110, 119) are crap in all respects. Whether the Niva, with its 'modernized' engine is still any good is something I haven't a clue about. Some people seem to think so, the car has been recently reintroduced here (an impressive feat in itself for something first introduced in 1977) and the first batch of cars was sold very quickly...
