Pakistan's cricket coach death possibly murder

I know most members here live in places where nobody cares about the game of cricket ...but I think this is a very big story.

Currently the Cricket World Cup is being played out in Kingston, Jamaica. Last weekend, Ireland beat Pakistan in their match ...this was very unexpected.

In Pakistan (and India) cricket is not just a game, it is an out-of-control obsession -- cricket fans in those countries take fanaticism to new levels. Players and coaches are frequently sent death threats and hate mail when they don't perform. Immediately after the loss, a few deranged fans were calling for death to the team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and English-born coach Bob Woolmer. T.V.stations were flooded with e-mails and calls from angry fans, who wanted the team and the Pakistan Cricket Board to be held accountable for bringing shame on the country.

Angry cricket fans took to the streets in protest and burned effigies of players on Sunday. Protesters held a mock burial of the team and chairman Ashraf in Hyderabad city, while posters and effigies of Inzamam and Woolmer were burnt in the central city of Multan. CNN.com

The next day Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room ...he later died. Initially it was thought to be natural causes, most likely a heart attack due to stress ...but today it was announced that his death is being treated as a possible murder.

It is being rumoured that the motives for a murder are most likely linked to corruption and illegal betting in the Indian subcontinent.

Re: Pakistan's cricket coach death possibly murder

yeah, this is really shocking! i saw this earlier but never figured there would be any cricket fans on board.

latest news is that there are marks all around his neck which leads to the case being investigated.

wonder whats going to happen but its really sad as he was such a nice guy and did plenty for the game. Pakistan on the other hand are a bunch of stone heads, it seems they were the only team he could not change. what a tragedy

I believe its due to stress and not murder. Just a really coincidental incidence...

Re: Pakistan's cricket coach death possibly murder

im a big fan of cricket..and pakistan is my team
and i saw that damn match..and ive been well upset these last days..
pak are seeded the 4th best team in the world..and they lost majorly to ireland who was at their first WC..
so its a big disgrace for us.. and its very important to us..

but with all that aside.. you cant go and kill and threath ppl..thats just retarded..
are they supposed to perform better if they are afraid??

its not the players fault..its the whole pak cricket fedirations fault..where everything is ran by bribery and money.. just like most other things in pak..
so the kids with talent and no money play in the streets..
while these richer no talent punks are out there making a fool out of their country..

this calls for a structural change..

PS
Pak will be playing their last match ( cause they are allready out) againt Zimbabwe..starting like just now..
i hope they can atleast win one match.. damn fools
