Lamborghini Miura Concept debut.

In much the same mold as Ford's reinterpretation of the legendary GT-40, Italy's raging bull, Lamborghini has mined one of its most endearing supercar designs, to create a modern counterpart. Different in every way, yet instantly recognisable as a Miura, the concept met with a warm reaction from a typically jaded press. The unveiling was a dream realized for Lamborghini design bigwig Walter DeSilva, and apparently for a few press people as well.

While de' Silva was quick to point out that there are no immediate plans for production, word on the street is that Automobili Lamborghini may park this one in showrooms by late next year. His first design for Lamborghini since coming on board (he's also the head of the Audi Design Group). While waiting for the press conference to begin, Ihad the occasion to speak with a number of Audi execs, and based upon what I heard, this isn't a runner, as it lacks a working drivetrain. Still, others had pegged the Miura Concept as lacking an interior, and the wiley souls at Sant' Agata Bolognese never so much as cracked its shapely, heavily-tinted doors. If you'll pardon the shoddy photo quality, a Nikon lens and a strong flash give lie to the rumor that the car lacks any sort of interior whatsoever (below). In point of fact, it appears to have a nicely-integrated instrument panel dominated by two metal-bezeled gauges, presumably a tachometer and speedometer. The center console has six smaller gauges that echo the theme, and a prominent metal-bracketed transmission tunnel houses a traditional Lamborghini gated shifter.

If its going to look like this, then I say don't build it. It doesn't come close to the beauty of the original.

I disagree!

Originality inspires replica and that's definitely the case here. And to be honest after 23 years bringing the car back in the new shape, but keeping the original spirit i say it's bull's eye!

I absolutely agree, Merc1. Maybe my post from the F599 thread is appropriate to convey my feelings on this car despite such practice (quoting oneself) being in bad taste:

Supercar design needs to move on and despite the original cars undoubted beauty, the Miura needs to be a more modern interpretation of the concept rather than the actual original design.

Re: Lamborghini Miura Concept debut.

You are right in that qute, Martin, but here are some people (me) that loves that design from early '70s and have nothing aginst them applying the old design philosophy on a 21st century car! It's identical and possibly more streamlined, maybe because of morners frames. Hell, look at the Porsches, you find them absolutely beautiful and there are some design elements on them that are more than 50 years old and you don't have anything aginst it, right?

Yes, but like I said a long time ago back on GCF:
"The 911 is a philosophy; cars like the Miura and Ford GT are facsimiles."

The 911 is a pure bloodline - a lineage whose basic shape has evolved with ever increasing precision and sophistication over time. Thus far, the 911 has been enduring, eternal and ever-present; not some retro throwback of sentimental appreciation on the part of middle-aged auto executives.

Re: Lamborghini Miura Concept debut.

i was against this car at the start.. but im warming up to it.. its rather nice

But then again at 700K dollar no thnx.. and i hope that they will have it as a GT car.. and not think of it as a competitor to the enzo and zonda..

Ok, in any case i'm in love with this design and i hope it'll look 99% like that. Better like that than some ugly, very ugly PS we've seen.
