I've to take my hat off for this BMW's new engine. Superb engine!
Despite being the weakest in this comparison, it's still is able to keep up or even outaccelerate its competitors.
It's especially impressive since it's a non-BMW M against the special sports in the likes of S-line and AMG.
And another plus is that it's pretty fuel efficient for its performance and relatively cheap.
I really hope that Audi and Mercedes will study this BMW's engine very carefully and that they will ever produce a comparable engine.
Powerful, refined, fuel efficient and lot's of torque throughout the whole rev range with no lag .

I cant wait for the scans on this test. The N54 (correct me if im wrong on that) is probably BMW's best engine so far. It combines both worlds with seemingly very little compromise. I think turbo charging is definite possibility for the future for BMW if not the future of the entire industry. I wouldnt say force induction on a whole is a great thing...for instance i wouldnt argue that super charging would be a good idea for BMW because it hurts gas mileage instead of enhances it like turbo charging.

After seeing that alpine white 335i in the cls vs e poll, I think I'd pick this one over the saloon. This car looks awesome. And the performance is really not too shabby either. BMW really struck gold with this engine, just waiting for the awards next year.

if a 335i owner want to race a C55 his best chance is probably from 160km/h down to zero. at higher speeds C55 will walk away due of the stronger engine.

but like you said the turbo engine is impressive and its also easier to tune than the V8's of S4 and C55 for less money too. I say 335i is bargain, you get a lot for the money. I'm really looking forward for the 135i with this engine, its going to be a monster

the engine produce 400nm from 1300 rpm to 5500 rpm. Redline starts at 7000 rpm.

The apparent weaknes in high speeds is because the engine is working outside the torque bandwidth, and secondly, the boost at high engine speeds are very low.
There is a guy here in the States that have succesfully opened the bandwidth limit to more than 6000 rpm by just increasing the boost by 1-2 psi.

He is claiming to have RWP of 330, and RW Torque of 350.

So I am sure, there is more potential for this engine.
