| Road & Track: Audi TT vs Porsche Cayman. ![]() This comparing the base version of the Cayman with the 245hp 2.7L H6 and the TT with 250hp 3.2L V6 and DSG. Despite the 58% aluminum body which makes the new TT significantly lighter than the outgoing heavy TT, it’s still some 300 lbs heavier than the steel-bodied Porsche, testimony to Porsche’s effort for weight loss. However, the TT still beats the Porsche to 60mph, 5.1 sec versus 5.3 sec. What does that mean? 5.1 sec for a TT. Finally, we are talking. And the AWD system combined with the excellent DSG transmission work beautifully to overcome the weight penalty. The wider spaced gear ratios of the Cayman’s 5-speed manual, and the relative lack of low to midrange torque also contribute to the slower performance. They mention that the TT rolls more and pushes more as expected. The Cayman, while not exactly high grip (after you’ve spent enough seat time in the Corvette, you understand what high grip means), allows the car to be controlled beautifully and in an entertaining fashion. In the end, both of the editors were split between the two cars. The TT is beautiful inside out, comfortable yet capable. The Cayman has more of the edge of classic sports car. Interesting that the Z4M would rates as a more extreme ride compared to the Cayman. At the end of the day though, had the Cayman cost $10K less, in line with the TT, I’d sure they would both have gone for it. That said, the new TT finally has what it takes to compete with the 2-seaters from Munich and Zuffenhausen. Source: - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER |
