Re: Autobild: 335i vs. 911

Wow good article. Impressive performance from the 335iC. Too bad it was an automatic, a 6spd would have been crazy. I would definitely take the Beemer over the Porsche due to the similar performance abilities and the bargain for the BMW vs the 911. Even though the 911 is actually quite comfortable driving around town, imo it is overpriced and sort of watered down for what the car is capable of.

Extremely sporty drivers should choose the 6 speed manual! Everybody else will attain happiness with the automatic. The automatic changes gears fast, comfortable and inconspicuous. In addition to that, the driver could change gear with the shift paddle!
I would never get the auto over the manual...Its just not worth it, the manual is faster, gets better mileage, and more fun to drive.

Thanks Wimmer for the translation. It was a great read BTW. The results were predictable, however.

Yup, a petrol TT BMW must go with manual.... Leave the auto for a diesel TT BMW...

Automatic is for girls!

I never like auto transissions. Manual is my preference by far. I like to have complete control over car. Manual & DSC off (except in snow & rain).

Re: Autobild: 335i vs. 911

If I could choose between these 2 cars the heart would tell 911, but head 335i. I mean, 35000 € is a lot of money and if you already have enough for 911 why not buy S?! Thanks for this man!

While I agree with you on the point that I would rather choose the 335i over the Porsche, its for rather different reasons than yours. IMHO, the Porsche, while beautiful, isn't anything 'special'. Its just too toned down in its old guy looks. I even think that the BMW is rather bland in its side profile, but it gets out more emotion from me than the simple 911.

While on the topic of the 911 I must say, I once had the chance to test drive a 997 Carrera S, and HANDS DOWN the best handling car EVER!!!! I mean I love my M but theres just no comparison! Even on the rough up-down roads of Mumbai, it handled absolutely perfectly and I never even once thought I was losing control for one single second!
