The review was positive and full of praise for both cars. The final word from Ralf Kund was 50/50 for both the BMW and Porsche. I have to say I agree with his final word. You want the raw sports car, get the Porsche. For a more comfortable yet equally capable sports car, get the BMW.

Hm, why did they tested the BMW with the 6 speed automatic? It is faster with the manual gearbox.

and after seeing those numbers for acceleration and stuff, it becomes clear that the new M3 will trash a regular 911 all over the place

335i is a car at which every single auto maker is looking now; it's design, engine, handling, fuel economy, chassis... Every single thing is on it's place and this car is, as i've already said, a perfection on wheels!

I suppose i thought these two vehicles shouldn't really be compared but the performance results leave the 335i nipping on the 911's arse. I would say the 997 is clearly the more performance oriented vehicle, especially around a track but look at the 335's in-time acceleration. It downright crushes the 997

A little addition 335i Automatic vs. 335i with 6 speed manual!

Result:

Extremely sporty drivers should choose the 6 speed manual! Everybody else will attain happiness with the automatic. The automatic changes gears fast, comfortable and inconspicuous. In addition to that, the driver could change gear with the shift paddle!

Sometimes, when magazines require cars for testing, the dealer from which they borrow the car is not capable of providing a car with a manual or an automatic at the given time. Most likely, this was the case here.

I do agree, I think the 335i 6-speed would have been quicker or at least have posted the same performance times as the Porsche.
