I will be very surprised if M3 beat a mid-engine car like R8 around a track. NSX-R is a mid-engine car as well and does Nordschleife in 8.09 min and Hockenheim in 1.14,6 min with only 280hp. Mid-engine cars are extremely balanced cars and very good tools around a track. A M3 to beat the R8 is almost impossible, the chance is very small.
R8 isnt a M3 competitior either, M3 compete with RS4 and nothing else. Both M3 and RS4 will be beaten by the R8 around a track.
