Comparison: RS4 vs M5

From swedish "Teknikens Varld"

----------------------------------------------------

A blue RS4 sedan vs a Titanium Silver M5, both with wintertyres. Some key points below:

"Driving the M5 in the snow is effortless and a childs playthanks to it's electronics sensors"

"The engine of the M5 cannot be compared, there is nothing you can compare it with. So much of Jekyll and Hyde -at the same time!"

Weight of the M5 as tested: 1970 kg. 0-100 km/h in impressive 4,73 s

Weight of the RS4 as tested: 1870 kg (!). 4,67 s.

At 130 km/h the M5 will pass the RS4:

M5 0-200 km/h: 13,7 s
RS4 0-200 km/h: 15,65 s

0-402 m M5: 12,68 s and 192,4 km/h
0-402 m RS4: 12,86 s and 180,6 km/h

The BMW M5 and RS4 was dynoed on a Rototest notice that the RS4 lacks approx. 17 HP, clocking in at 403 HP. The BMW M5 gave 3 additional HP (510 HP) when measured.

RS4 averaged 1,5 liters / 10 km and M5 1,7 liters / 10 km

Bottom line: "We cannot say which is best since they are so different, but the Audi takes alot of points on the winterroads."

"You can wait a few years to let them depreciate to half. And buy both"

Summary for the RS4 "Class bully":

In many years Audi have tried to build a car that matches the best in power and not at least driving dynamics. With the new RS4 they have built that car -on all surfaces. Best in class.

Summary for the M5 "Megalomaniac":

Big, heavy and comfortable, and along with a competent driver can drive the xxx of most car there is. M5 might be the most impressive car in it's kind. Hightec in a way that no other has.

Both cars scored 61 points /100.

----------------------------------------------------

This is the best 0-200km/h time I seen for RS4, better than factory time?
Of course a M5 isnt like a RS4 on winterroads but I think many will be surprised how good a M5 behave on winterroads. Its a well balanced car.

Re: Comparison: RS4 vs M5

Just Me please don't get mad, but the first time I read this test I was like "what? why are they comparing the RS4 (my dream car) to the M5?

After reading it more and more I have accepted it and moved on.

This is a good comparison, although I am not sure if it has merit. I mean, why would you compare these two vehicles? Nevermind that. Like I said I moved on

I really like the RS4! I have to admit it. I saw that video from Top Gear where the guy is driving the red RS4 and is challenging these two guys (there is one main one that is the good climber) to rock climb a mountain while he races up to the top. Well for those of you who have seen it, you know what happened. Either way, whether he lost or one it shows how nice and powerful the car is. He says that he would dare to say that "I would dare to say that it is better than the M3".
Who Knows

I love it and want it!

Re: Comparison: RS4 vs M5

It does say a lot about the car (RS4) to be compared against a car like M5. It must be one heck of a car, and the fact that it is (as are all Quattro Audis) so superior on the winter roads just makes it extremely attractive.

you mean like those M5 vs F430 reviews, M5 must be one heck of a car as well.

BMWfreak, both are the latest versions on the market, both have 4-doors, both reeving to 8250rpm and in Sweden the price difference isnt that huge between them. Thats my guesses why they compared them.

Re: Comparison: RS4 vs M5

good review...I liked the verdict. I'm glad they didn't say that one was better then the other because they are totally diffrent cars for different people.

on the side note, AUDI has built one hell of a car. I would love to own it if i had the money. AUDI has put their cards on the table and now we are all waiting to see what cards BMW is going to put next. I don't know if Mercedes will be able to step up to the challenge, I hope so because that drives the competition.

Just Me. If you for some reason could not get an M5 because it was not being offered and you had to choose between an RS4 and the current M3; what would you go for?

Re: Comparison: RS4 vs M5

Well no dought about it on straight line performance the M5 has the RS4 beat in any field. But put them on the track and I seem to remember that on top gear the RS4 got a 3 secound humiliation on the 1.5 min track.
