Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen: Part II

Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen: Part II

In part two of the Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen contest, Italy and Germany's finest deploy their supercar GTs into combat of epic proportion. Whilst their raison d'etre is distinctly similar, their design approaches couldn't be more different. One employs a massively torquey, twin turbo boxer six hung out back, the other a high powered, naturally aspirated V12, front-mid mounted. The 911 is the evergreen supercar for all reasons, the F599, the ultimate GT statement. One pays homage to a carefully honed design that has evolved with steady and unrelenting precision whereas its competitor falls in line with a whole new corporate design language.

The price doesn't matter - if you can afford one, then you'd probably have both so pick the long distance, road devouring chariot of choice:

The Ferrari F599 GTB

The Porsche 911 Turbo

Please discuss your choice and please, as a rule, be as objective and honest as possible without resorting to mockery and derision. If you don't like the looks for instance, please say so but without using terms like POS, tarted up, nausea inducing, trash can. Vomit smilies expressly disallowed - your post will be deleted.

Re: Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen: Part II

This one is easy. The Turbo. I like Ferraris a lot but I have to say their recent efforts haven't been up to the standards they used to uphold. It is quite possible the design is more and more dictated by aerodynamics but I'd still rather have a 575 than a 599. The new 911 Turbo on the other hand is in my opinion the best Porsche design since the 993 Turbo which was one of my favorites. As far as driving experience is concerned, I'm unlikely to ever find out but in that respect I'd expect neither of them to disappoint.

Yes, I know, I voted 911 Turbo. But it was a heart-wrenching, agonising choice. I'd take that F599 GTB in a heartbeat too.

Re: Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen: Part II

I have really grown to quite like this new Ferrari - but the 911 Turbo is more me....so to speak - I prefer it's clean and thoroughy German style.

So it's the Porsche for me.

Re: Maranello vs. Zuffenhausen: Part II

I voted for the Ferrari 599. Ferrari really seems to have gotton their act together engineering wise. This new one should be as fantastic as the F430.

I also like the Porsche but I expected more power this time around.
Something in the neighborhood of 500hp at least. Everyone else is smoking the 500hp pipe, why couldn`t Porsche do it this time.

Oooo at the rate that these two polls are going Zuffenhausen is going to murder Maranello. I should've post these on Ferrariworld too no? You biased German car lovers! [:smack_bottom smilie]

Whilst those same 500 hp pipesmokers are simultaneously smoking the lard-ass pipe too, Porsche engineers have managed to keep a four-wheel drive turbocharged car in the 1500 kilo bracket.

... and Porsche torque pipe is smoking rather vigourously too.

But good points all the same...
