Autobild: BMW 325i vs Lexus IS250

325i / IS250

218hp / 208hp
Consumption 12.1 l/6,2 l/8,4 l _____ 13.5 l/7,7 l/9,8 l
Brakes cold/warm from 100 km/h 37.2/36.8 m _____ 37.0/37.4 m
Acceleration 0-50/0-100 km/h 2.7/7.3 ______ s 3,1/8,1
Elasticity 60-100/80-120 km/h 7.6/13.7 ______ s 8,1/14,7
Weight distribution in front/in the back 50/50% ____ 53/47%

The power steering in the Lexus functioned purely electrically, works nevertheless pleasing precisely. She finds their master however in the BMW. It feels still more directly, probably because fewer weights on the front axle rests.

BMW - Consents sport seats, large trunk, high-quality materials, airier space feeling, optimal seating position, more place in the rear.

Lexus - Knieairbags, rain sensor, good processing, small interior, climatic mechanism, no variability, tank flap left with remote unblocking.

BMW - Sporty sound of engine, pleasant travelling comfort, direct steering element, good acceleration, gently regulating stability program.

Lexus - Noise and vibration-poor engine, torque-weakly, very unkomfor tables sport chassis, short operating paths, precise steering element.

BMW - The 3er-BMW remains yardstick in the sporty middle class. In addition it convinced with the agileren engine, is handier and offers more place.

BMW - Although the BMW in the acquisition costs 1500 euro more, it is the more favorable car in the long term. So also altogether place one.

Lexus - The Lexus is more favorable and better equipped, on a long-term basis however more expensive: high maintenance costs, worse resale - place two.

1. BMW - 442 points
2. Lexus - 417 points

Re: Autobild: BMW 325i vs Lexus IS250

That point spread means nothing, the Lexus has high maintenance costs, yet requires no maintenance but an oil change. Depreciation?!?!?!

Seems like they like them equally, but are favorites to BMW.

Both great cars, but theier reasoning for second place is rediculous.

"Lexus - The Lexus is more favorable and better equipped, on a long-term basis however more expensive: high maintenance costs, worse resale - place two."

Long term more expensive????? WHAT??? Maybe in Europe, in the US this car will be a huge kit.

Again, both awesome cars, but the reasoning is bad.

Re: Autobild: BMW 325i vs Lexus IS250

Nice comparison.

And once again - seeing them togehter - I'm even more convinced IS' design is to age very quickly.

I do not know how but BMW are able to design their cars to look ultramodern, sporty & dynamic yet in control & matured.

Now I fully understand Bangle's claim "dynamic and sportiness without control is nothing."

IS' design looks without control - like too ripe fruit which is starting to rot soon.

Mind the test was done by AutoBild - a German magaizne. The test standards are up to European conditions where Lexus dealership is almost non-existing and services / maintenance are very expensive, and where Lexus depreciates much much more than comparable German cars.

I'm sure Lexus will not sell well in continental Europe - maybe a bit better in UK - due to its generic Japanese design, and especially due to lack of brand cache & prestige.

Mind in Europe many established brands with good products (Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Citroen, Peugeot, etc) tried to break the big 3 Germans, but failed.

Europeans are snobish - most like brands with heritage & cache, not some instant luxury brands / products wannabies.

That Lexus is gorgeus. Most beautiful Lexus design ever IMO. Even better looking then the E90!

This picture clearly shows how drab the E90's rear is compared to the IS.

After all that, I'll still take en E90. The tests prove more than once than BMW still holds the reigns for driving dynamics and feel. I'm surprised they mentioned Lexus had a noise & vibration-poor engine. I'd expected more.

Re: Autobild: BMW 325i vs Lexus IS250

There is nothing wrong with the E90 , get over it Artist! In fact it's so nice that i want one!

Lexus with IS has made a few critical mistakes:
1-Design is too generic to apeal to European customers
2-The car lacks interior spaces to a point that many won't buy it for that reason alone.
3-It needs a smaller engine like a 2.0 lt one for the countries in which cars with smaller displacement engines are favored by the tax system.

Actually that are one of the reasons why BMW loose against Audi and MB in Autobild. Costs play a big part in Autobilds reviews. IT wont help that Lexus have low maintenace costs in US. I live in Europe so of course costs are important to me.

More details:
BMW / Lexus
Body 157 149
Drive/chassis 172 160
Maintenance costs 67 57

Test result 396 366 (price and resale not included)
