Autobild: CL65 vs Continental GT Speed

1st place: Bentley Continental GT Speed

Extremely heavy but very save and stylish Gran Toursimo, even slightly less expensive than the CL 65 AMG. Even at the race track, the GT Speed is much more comepetitive as expected.

2nd place: Mercedes CL 65 AMG

The most exclusive car in the Mercedes portfolio convinces with its powerful engine and driving comfort. It shows some weaknesses at the race track and so was bet to 2 secs. by the Bentley

What's next?

"Compared to the Lexus LS, we were not impressed with the comfort of Kimmi Raikkonen's Formula One car. However it wins this comparison because its fast! Fuel costs are very high though..."

It's pretty obvious that the CL65 AMG, despite all that power is a luxury-biased GT car with a heck load of power for fast Autobahn cruising. I don't think there are many CL owners who take their car unto the track for some "serious performance driving". They might take the car on the track for some fun, but not serious driving.

I doubt people take their Bentleys to the track either. Too big and too heavy for the track.

Re: Autobild: CL65 vs Continental GT Speed

I am surprised that the Bentley is cheaper, faster/almost as fast in a straight line and faster around a track despite almost same HP, way less torque and being heavier. Anyway, it is my favorite GT if you don't count the sportier F599.

Exactly. I'd be inclined to say that a normal Bentley CGT probably never sees the track at all. Either way I'd be happy with either cars. I remember the time I was able to sit inside a Bentley CGT in London. I was walking past one and asked the chauffeur if I could sit in it and he could take a picture of me. He did.

Sadly I lost that picture.

Re: Autobild: CL65 vs Continental GT Speed

I wouldn't care what the ugly frog can do it is not a superior car to the CL65 AMG. Period.

Let Car and Driver or Motor Trend test these 2 to get more accurate test numbers. A CL65 AMG can get to 60 mph quicker than 4.7 secs.

Hey Marcus, there is nothing wrong with European acceleration tests.

Sure there are. Neither car is being driven correctly.

I could get better numbers than that.

Lol, who in the right frame of mind would use a chauffeur for a 2+2 coupe like CGT.
