Yeah, I have to say I'm very disapointed too.
It seems like they thought "let's hurry and put some LEDs in there on the old A6 lights...

Re: IAA pictures: New RS6 Avant vs. BMW M5

Both look hot in white, the red one not so much. Like the RS6's rear lights and rear diffuser more, but the M5 headlights look way better. Love the Audi's fenders, but hate the long ass front overhang.
BTW when did Audi start doing shark fin antenna?

Re: IAA pictures: New RS6 Avant vs. BMW M5

The Audi looks better here due to the color and newness of it all, and more imporantly the M5 doesn't have the optional roof rails to balance its look out.

Re: IAA pictures: New RS6 Avant vs. BMW M5

They both look stunning in their respective colors. Audi RS6 Avant in red has SEX APPEAL written all over it. I find the M5 in white to look understated and elegant, not sporty for some reason. Both are gorgeous in their own way though.

Re: IAA pictures: New RS6 Avant vs. BMW M5

To me the RS6 looks like this:

Now that's not trying to take a shot at the car, it's just the facial expression I see on the car. The RS4 looks alive, but the RS6 seems dull, uninterested and bored.

For me the M5 wins in almost every aspect. The facial features of the M5 outclass the RS6's bored expression, the lighting technology in the front lights favour the M5 as well. Looking at the rear the M5 takes an even more clear win with it's dominating quad-exhausts, its creative yet purposeful rear diffusor, the overall synergy of lines and shapes (unlike the Audi's boring, and too smooth rear end). When the A6 Avant was release with those stunning rear-light LED optics it easily won over the 5er's boring rear lights, but now with the facelift the M5 gains those CELID strips which look amazing!
The RS6's wheels continue the disinterested and unimaginative trend (reminds me a lot of the boring M6 wheels), while the M5's wheel architecture still makes me drool to this day! Even the shark-fin design of the BMW is more appealing.

The only area where the Audi scored points over the M5 is the door-handles.. but that's only in terms of design (ie: making them as unnoticeable as possible) .. but from an ergonomic point of view, I'd much prefer the M5's door-handle style because it looks so much easier to get the hand in and open the door.

Heck, even the side mirrors the M5 trumps the new RS6...

But this all just my opinion and my reasoning. Each to his own right.

Re: IAA pictures: New RS6 Avant vs. BMW M5

To pull back on the reins of enthusiasm at little, it must be added that neither car is a flawless beauty. The M5 hasn't made the transition to wagon derivative as sportily as I'd hoped. The sedan is already a bulky car but the M5 Touring looks even longer and bulkier. That said, Audi, kings of the covetable estate theme haven't quite gotten the magic of the RS4 Avant's chunky, brutal looks in this new RS6 either. Aft of the front wheels, it's svelt and elegant but that metre long front overhang unbalances the car in my opinion. Still, I'd take one in white because it does manage look a fraction better than the M5.
