A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

From M5board:

"Well, well, well.

The reign of M-terra might be close to an end, I got a surprize today when I spotted a very sharp red audi on the highway with an interesting label on the back, something-6? Oh my, it was an RS-6!! I try to nimbly pass it on the left, but the guy spotted me and gave chase. Not the one to let him catch me from behind, I down-shift two more and am at it with a passion, but lo and behold, he is sticking to my tail, I let him catch up to me after about 10 or so seconds, we give each other the finger, umm thumb and I guess its over, but he starts pulling again and I down-shift right behind him, about 200 feet back, what a surprize, I can't catch him, the distance remains the same.

My opinion is that despite all the trickery inside M engine, the high revving concept and all that, the major advantage that imbeciles like me have over other drivers is the shift speed of the SMG and with DSG, we lose that 0.2 second window of advantage where we are pulling hard while they are shifting with the clutch disengaged. The game is over, atleast for us stocky types, something to reckon with is on the horizon.

p.s. I totally didn't expect to see an RS-6 so soon here, but its here boys."

Re: A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

Nothing new here. RS cars have always been faster & more powerful than M cars of same generation cars.

RS6 C5 (450hp) is also faster than M5 E39 (400hp).

0-100kmh: 4.7s vs 5.2s
0-200kmh: 17.6s vs 18.9s

I feel very sorry for that guy - he obviously lived in a delusion.
M cars have never been good drag performers.

If despite having 80Hp on the M5, if all it did was maintain the same distance, it would be very disappointing.

Re: A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

I cant wait for side by side reviews. I think RS6 will be slighly faster to 200km/h but not by much. Time will tell.

I feel ya. With that HP and torque advantage the RS6 is clearly faster in all conditions. Whether it's from a stand still, rolling start or at speeds over 160km/h.
