Err.. not according to the info that Audiholic posted in his starting-thread. The M5 ownder didn't get his ass handed to him, nor did the RS6 actually prove to be faster.. more rather, it was simply just as fast in a straight line.

As Eni said, the guy was dillusional to think his M5 could actually pull-away in a straightline.... but even more importantly, as Sunny said, if all the RS6 did was keep up with the noticeably less-powered M5, then it is the RS6 owner who should be more disappointed than the M5 owner.

Nonetheless, nice to read a real-life comparo from time to time.

Re: A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

Sounds more like a wet dream to me, lOl.

If this is true The Audi should be faster than that. We have to give BMW credit for the fantastic performance of it`s SMG tranny, it`s off the hook
and really takes advantage of the wide power band it`s hooked up to.

The Audi RS6 Avant will naturally be heavier than the RS6 sedan. I suspect the sedan should pull away from the M5 with better results.

Re: A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

And that seems more realistic, since many wondered why on earth he saw a RS6 , when it hasn't come out for sales yet! Especially in the US!!

umm...have you ever been in a race? When you're directly behind someone and have to stay in that line you can't push really hard. Why? Because if you do then you will ram the guy in front. The keeping up with me is what I'm saying about getting his ass handed to him. The guy pushed and pushed but the guy behind him didn't get any further, that means that the car behind him was fast than his.

I've beaten and EVO (286hp) with my E36 (240hp) because I was in front and picked the right gear at the right time. I left the Mitsu in the dust. Now this guy has his SMG with the guy behind him not knowing what hear he will hit. So for the guy to keep up easily with him means he aint that fast. In street racing terms, if you can't put a distance from the car behind you, you don't win. I've been in countless races where we start from a roll and I'm behind the car. If he can't pull away from me, it's a tie. The next round, me in front and the guy behind...I pull away. Game over, I win.

Re: A M5 E60 owner meets the new RS6

If a tuned S6 can do that then i wonder what the RS6 will do ,i saw a german vid testing the E63,M5 and S6..the S6 came second beating the M5 while the E63 came first,i think HoH posted it while back.

But Audiholic's first post also says that even when the M5 was behind the RS6, the distance stayed the same in that case too...

Quote:
"I down-shift right behind him, about 200 feet back, what a surprize, I can't catch him, the distance remains the same."
I think the RS6 will be definitely be faster, but many will be surprised that it won't be by as much at higher speeds as the numbers would have you believe. M5's high revving V10 and 7 speed SMG is devastatingly effective at higher speeds, while the RS6 would be burdened down by the automatic gear and AWD. And I think that is exactly why the RS6 got a huge bump in HP, cause it actually needs it to stay ahead.
