Road&Track: BMW M5 vs BMW M6

M5 / M6
0-20mph 1.0 s / 1.1 s
0-60mph 4.1 s / 4.1 s
0-80mph 6.5 s / 6.4 s
0-100mph 9.5 s / 9.2 s
0-120mph 13.3 s / 12.7 s

0-402m 12,4@115,8 mph / 12,4@118,1 mph

Slalom speed 68,9 mph / 69,5 mph

"So how do you choose between M5 and M6? If you need space, the M5 is the one. For those who don't, the M6 performs ever so slightly better according to the numbers. According to the seat of our pants , however, the M6 feels much better , making it the purists choice. As for styling, well, it's not even a question. Every german we came across gave the M6 a third look, whereas the M5 barely recieved a passing glance. Germans know their cars, and they love their M6".

More quotes from the review:

"COMPARING THE BMW M5 with its coupe brother—the M6—is like arguing over who’s hotter: Jennifer Garner or Jessica Biel. What’s the point? Any self-respecting guy would be happy with either. Same goes for the M5 and M6. But off to Germany we went, to answer this simple question: If you had to choose (the M5 or M6, not Garner or Biel), which would it be"?

"These are easy cars to drive fast, both on the Autobahn (where those big brakes give complete confi dence that, yes, you will be able to slow down in time) and on back roads. The M6 has slightly quicker, more direct steering and as a whole feels more lively and nimble than the M5. But both
exhibit handling manners near perfect for road cars, with steering neither darty nor too slow, and with excellent feedback."

Re: Road&Track: BMW M5 vs BMW M6

I think if I had to chose one, I'd take the M6 because one, it's the 6er (and that's a definite plus). That shot of the Bangle butt is enough to make me melt. However, I still kind of want the practicality of a 4 door and when it comes to that, the M5 is hard to beat. It's such a tough choice. Either way, either car would me good for me thanks.

Re: Road&Track: BMW M5 vs BMW M6

I choose M6 cause I dont have a family and I dont prior practicalty, besides M6 is a sportier car. But if price is an issue I go with M5.

Re: Road&Track: BMW M5 vs BMW M6

I have always thought the 5er was a better looking car than the 6er. Why would I get an M6 over a Carrara S?? If I wanted the ultimate sports car I wouldnt get a bimmer, I'd get a Porsche. So that makes the M6 not very unique IMO. The M5 is really a unique car because its really the fastest sedan around which I cant get from anyone else but BMW. Ill take the M5 please.

well, M6 is more practical and comfortable than a 911 and I also think its a cheaper car to own. M6 is more a grand tourismo (GT) than a sportcar.
Only 911 I would choose over M6 is 997 turbo or upcoming GT2, if its a regular carrera/carrera S then its M6 for me.

so when E63 AMG comes you will choose it over M5 cause E63 is a faster car?

That's an excellent point... if you are going to go for a true sportscar, you might as well go for a 911. But I still love how the 6er looks. It's just a unique and beautiful car in eyes

The reason I'm drawn to the M5 is as you said, one of the best sedan ever made. Plus you can make 3 passengers cry.

(<OO \ (||||)(||||) / OO>) thats pretty tight, warot.

I like the 6 too, just not as much as the 5. Especially the interior. I love the 6 but it has some things that bother me. For example the hoodline. I like the rear much more than the front.

No Way! Im way too BMW biased to do a thing like that. Just because the e55 was quicker than the e39 m5 do you think I was switching teams?? Andreas....lol
