The S65 may have that devastatingly powerful engine, but I can't imagine that car being able to hustle it's weight through corners as well as the M5 could, and yes the RS4 could do it better than the M5, but the RS4 (like the E46 M3) is just a bit too small for my liking.

Each car has more than enough performance but the S65 has more performance (It will perform stunningly arround tracks , not as quick as the M5 but it will be close ) , each car has more than enough style but the S65 just looks better in all ways . Each car has more than enough technology but the S65 has more advanced technology . Each car has its own respect but the S65 is just intimidating (Inside your heart you can feel it and you cant stop it or controll it) . Each of the M5 and RS4 has compettitors but the S65 is in a class of its own . As beautifull as it looks , as monsterous as it goes . Drink your coffee and smoke a ciggar , press the peddle and it will go that far . MASSAGE your back and smoke that M5 , the RS4 will just watch the other big dogs drive .

Brand comes 1st
Presence comes 2nd
Exclusivity comes 3rd
Power comes 4th
Performance comes FIFTH

You obviously have a passion for Mercedes Benz much like my passion for BMW. So its difficult for people like you and me to make objective judgements about quality without letting our personal biases get in the way. I cannot say I've had any issues with Benz's quality personally however my brother may have a bit of a complaint with his 1998 C230 compressor and all the problems he's had with that car. I only hope Mercedes quality has improved, since the low point of the late 90's. I suppose only time will tell. We'll have to wait five or so years to see how well this new generation of MB's are holding up..
