Re: S350, 730i, A8 3.2 FSI

I just wanted to say something regarding the price. The new S-class is more expensive than its competitors in the same way as the new Audi RS4 is more expensive than M3 and C55. Plain and simple IT IS BETTER! And that is why you end up paying more. Of course there are many other factors but the one I stated is really simple and it makes sense to me.

A man (or women ) who can afford a A8 and 7er, can also afford himself an S-class. The sales numbers are the proof of this.

Exactly. People just need to stop bitching about the S-class. Let's face it, it's the best. Take it or leave it.

Re: S350, 730i, A8 3.2 FSI

There is no question, the Sclass is the winner in this class, there is just no other possible choice... It is down in Eclass where the main battle is imo... Those opting for 7er must love its handling, those opted for the A8 probably because being an Audi fan or cheaper price, others why not S?

He was supposed to stop the car and simulate what the system would do. The system wasn't even activated because Mercedes told the magazine that it would not work in their test hall. The system DID NOT FAIL Yannis, the only failure here is you not having read the article and/or understanding what happened.

I'm still waiting on you to admit that you simply don't like Mercedes because you hardly ever make any sense when you try to bash Mercedes. You still think Mercedes' have as poor weight distribution as Audis too I bet.

It amazes me how in the same post you can look to reviews about the S-Class and claim things about sound insulation and what not, yet you point to a bogus test of Distronic, when those same reviews of the S-Class have shown that Distronic works in the real world. Every magazine across the world has driven the new S-Class and not one of them reported that Distronic didn't work. Now if you have a magazine review that says different I'd love to see it, otherwise you're just bs'ng again.

M
Very well said Merc1 It's really amusing how some people try to pull all sorts of nonsense together to support their unfounded oppinions rather than just accepting things as they are.

* Distronic or BAS were not activated during the staged test. Undoubtedly MB have to accept a large amount of blame for this PR catastrophe, but clearly it wasn't due to system failure. How can a system fail if its not even activated.

* The morons who bagged distronic failed to even test the system while the system was operating in the conditions it was designed to operate, i.e on the move along poorly lit roads.

* Despite what that one German test said about sound proofing, every other review I have read have raved on about the silence experienced within the cars cabin. They surely can't all be lying about their experience?

* It doesn't drive as well because its not as sporty as the 7 or A8? Please, how sporty a car is, is hardly the be all and end all of deciding how well a car drives, particularly in this catgeory where overall comfort is the prime objective. As Car so aptly wrote, the way the S-class drives is "crushingly superior''.

Fair enough, if you happen to prefer the Audi or BMW for whatever reason. But don't so blatantly discount the fact that the the S-class is the superior excercise in Luxury car engineering overall, as marginal as that may be in some aspects. MB is not some sort of incompetent newcommer when it comes to building these sorts of vehicles.

These cars are luxury cars which are supposed to give maximum comfort and if the S offers better comfort then it's a winner. The A8 is a good car which a very reasonably price and no better what people say about it's looks the car is simply best at what it's supposed to do which is tranport people in superb comfort. A black Carlsson S530 for me please.

On top of that when we arre talking about cars for 70-90k price is more or less no object for the buyers. At this price range 10k isn't going to make any difference for the buyer. Yes the S is more expensive but it's also a better car. You guys can say what you can say what you want about the S but that doesn't change the fact that it is the best luxury car of all three.

We have members over at M5board.com that arent wealthy persons. They had to sacrifice other things just to be able to buy a M5. They cant afford for instance a M6 just because they own a M5. So its wrong the claim that all buyers in this priceclass can afford everything.

BTW Autobild gave the same score to 7er and S-class in the comfort category, A8 got less points.

It's quite logical if you pay more for a better car, and pay less for a lesser car. But is the S-Class really worth all that extra money? I think not.
Actually the S500 I believe has more standard options than its competitors bar the LS.

yea but what percentage of M5 owners had to sacrifice something to buy it?...there can't be that many..., they are not exactly typical luxury car buyers are they if they are having to sacrifice stuff to get it? no offense to them though....i know some people who just lease expensive cars instead just because they cannot afford them but have to show off..., but for the majority of expensive car owners 10k is going to be nothing, btw does anyone know what the average car price is? if i had to guess i would say $10,000...

also....anyone know what a W140 s-class cost when that came out, i think it cost a lot more than a w220...
