The car is definetly not a bad one but it's dissapointing that it didn't beat the 911 or give it a tough much neither has it sweept the fllor with the competitors. Therefor it seems like a pointless car.
its not easy to beat 911 but it doesnt make the car a failure. AMV8 isnt hardcore like 911, instead it turned out to be comfortable car.

Pagani Zonda F - insanely ugly. I would be embarrassed driving around in that.

Re: Performance Car of the year 2005 - your choice?

Again people, what is the matter with you.
This is turning into a M5 (BMW) versus CLS AMG (MB) tread.
Performance, Veyron hands down, nothing comes close, even if I love all the other cars inhere.
Use reason, for the name of God, not bias subjective BS.
This just proves 2 things to me
1. we shoud ban anyone making a poll.
2. even if humans poses reason, they don't use it.

The 997 should be the clear winner in this one. It's the ultimate all round car, ultimate sports car, and an icon... which i guess means you guys are just sick ot it

Re: Performance Car of the year 2005 - your choice?

The Veyron is my Performance Car of the Year. You might say a BMW M5 doesn't come often, once every 7 years, but this car's development has spanned decades, and the brand itself is only just enjoying its revival.

It's a bit ugly, and it's pure, unabashed arrogance in the face of the previous limits of road car standards, both in luxury and performance, but it's this arrogance that is just a bit appealing - the audaciousness to go beyond what exists.

I'd never buy one, but the words of sheer amazement that have come from almost every reviewer makes me certain that driving it would be an experience to remember.

Otherwise, honourable mentions - BMW M5, for excelling in the face of great expectations and making a good performance sedan; the Porsche 997 for continuing the legend and making a good all-rounder sports car; and also in a minor way, the Corvette Z06, for being an American car that can really take it to the best, in terms of performance, and all for an affordable price.

But the others aren't bad, too.

Re: Performance Car of the year 2005 - your choice?

For me...it would have to be the Veyron. I mean yes the other cars do amazing things...but in the end the car lots of people expected to have problems and expected not to be completed finally got made.

For me this is a comparison between brain-surgury and the rise of frankenstein. Sure brain-surgury is hard and a little bit of mistake and it's over but to make something out of scratch and actually make it breathe is a miracle. My hats off to the designers and engineers of the Veyron.

It does all the things that the company said it would and does it in style too.
