| ![]() The new Mercedes C-class became clearly more dynamic but which is the best choice? Body/chassi: Winner: E-class The fact that the smaller C-class cannot maintain ground with the space offer against the large e-class hardly surprises. The difference shows up most clearly in the rear TRAVELLING COMFORT: Winner: E-class The C-class is balanced, the E-class is however better. Although the E-class with optional avant-garde package inclusive of tauter chassis tuning start can filter, it still more harmoniously crude unevenness. Not only the unreeling comfort convinced, also the noise insulation is better. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION: Winner: C-class The compressor engine is more spritziger in the lighter C-class. But sprintet the 140 kilograms easier C 200 K starting from speed 100km/h the E 200 K up and of it. Besides Mercedes the six-course transmission with shorter operating paths pleases in C-class. The precision could however be more accurate in both. DRIVING DYNAMICS: Winner: E-class The C-class is agil, but the E-class scores in handling. C-class scores better in slalom but more points for E-class in handling. E-class shorter braking distance. From 100 km/h the E 200 K stands after 37.5 meters - with warm brake still another half meter in former times. C 200 K needs - coldly as warm - 38.7 meters, also as the brake pedal cannot be proportioned sensitivly as that of the larger Mercedes. ENVIRONMENT & COSTS: Winner: C-class Not only with the price the C-class cuts off clearly more favorably With warranties and tax both still are on same level. By his high price of 38140 euro loses larger Mercedes however points. C200 /E200 184hp/184hp Both using manual 0-100 km/h (s) : 9.1 9.6 Maximum speed (km/h): 239 236 Place 1. E-class 3052 points 2. MB claimed to have made massive advances in areas of comfort, refinment, and handling. I was wondering if this new C class has reached the same level as the E-class, this comparison answered my question |

The facelifted W211 E-class benefited from the "Direct Control" upgrades (quicker steering ratio, firmer suspension/dampers, etc), just like the facelifted W203 C-class did immensely. As hard as it is to believe, could the W204 actually have inferior driving dynamics than the older facelifted models? What I would actually like to see is a direct comparison between the W204 C-class and facelifted W203 C-class. Then, we'll really see whether there has been real progress. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. Although many reviews of the W204 C-class claim it is much "better" than the W203 C-class, no one has driven them back to back in a direct comparison, which means the journalists are going by memory when they think of how the W203 felt like in terms of driving dynamics and handling. And I bet they had very negative impressions of the first pre-facelifted W203 C-class. |

| Re: Autozeitung: Mercedes C 200 Komp versus E 200 Komp. Another issue is that the W204 they tested seems to be a luxury model, which has different suspension/dampers than the Avant Garde or Sport models. And the W211 E-class seems to be an Avant Garde model, no? |

They say the C-class scores more than the E-class in the slalom but the E class is better at braking and stopping, so i guess they award more points to the E-class for the handling section. I agree with you, with the correct specs, there is no way the E-class can handle as well as the C-class in real life |
