Seriously, it's all very nice to get 100 Bhp/L from a normally aspirated 2.0 16V I-4-cylinder engine. But what about the torque? What about fuel consumption? What about smoothness? You can call me a square if you like, but I much rather have a smooth 2.0 16V Turbo with "only" 170 Bhp (like the one in the Vauxhall Vectra SRi) that is plenty of torque, than a high-revving 2.0 16V normally aspirated engine which needs to be worked hard on the gears to finally develop the power. I drove the old Honda Civic Type-R and I pretty much hated it. Handling was (very) good, but everything else was rubbish. Driving position was very Ford Transit-like, ride was painfully harsh, uncomfortable seats, engine was loud and noisy, but for me the worst thing about it, it was the lack of torque on low revs. Not a good car to drive around town or cruise along the motorway. I dare to say, the old Civic Type-R it is one of the worst cars I have ever driven. | |
