Are these guys nuts?

Acura’s Future: We want to rival Bentley and Maybach

While Hyundai targets BMW and Mercedes, Acura takes it up a notch with Bentley and Maybach in its sight. This is Honda’s luxury division Acura, who just opened a new design center in California in May, hoping to distance itself from Honda.

“We want to rival Bentley and Maybach in performance and design,” said Dave Marek, chief designer for Honda R&D Americas, in an interview with Automotive News.

But while Acura dreams of playing in the big leauge, the truth is that since there is no V8 or rear-wheel drive car in its lineup, Acura will remain a second-tier luxury brand.

I was ROTFL my ass off when I read this title.

They don't even rival Audi/BMW/Benz... still making FWD platform cars! Of the 3 Japanese luxury manufacturers, they are the lowest on the scale.

The most absurd thing I've read in quite some time. For all the reasons above and more Acura will never rival anyone in their current form, let alone the toppers of the luxury pile.

Hmm, it's a good laugh, but if you think of it, why would Acura need to make such a move? I guess that it's not easy from day 1 to day 2 to change the brand this way. Other than that, they lack tradition in this segment...
