Re: New VW Golf VI coming in 2008.

Seems kind of early since this one isn't that old. We still barely even have the current Golf here in the States.

Already? Facelift perhaps, but new platform... that doesn't make sense!?

Re: New VW Golf VI coming in 2008.

Translation:

Sensation: new Golf VI is coming already in Fall 2008

According to "Stern" magazine VW is working hard on the next generation Golf. Therefore Golf V will be terminated just after 5 years of production.

Reason: Due to strong competition the bestseller from Wolfsburg has to fight harder than ever for its place in the market - in and out of Germany.

Golf VI is planned to defeat the competition especially with attractive prices and lower consumption.

Due to cost cutting measures VW won't be able to offer so many Golf variants as seen today. Only two variants of Golf will be offered (now three): an elegant 3-door hatch in BMW 1er style, and a raised-roof variant - like current Golf Plus.

The new engines will be economical yet powerful. New diesel engines will be quieter and up to the new EU enviromental standards due to common-rail technic. Petrol engines will be of lower displacement but equipped with Super & Turbocharges resulting in lower fuel consumption.

The current Golf is near perfect IMO. They should let it run a little longer.

For sure and it's the best selling german car in the whole europe if i'm not mistaken, so that's why i really don't get this:

***???

Btw, Tine, the sales of Golf, how do they look in Slovenia? In Croatia, Golf V is the best selling car in it's segment. It totally destroys it's competition like renault Megane, Peugeot 307, etc...

This bit disturbs me the most:

To offer GTI and R32 as only three door variants? No way. That would be just plain illogical. This article is suspect in its accuracy.

Re: New VW Golf VI coming in 2008.

Yeah. In some markets a 5-door variant (for practicality) reigns as the most popular model.

In Australia, Singapore and I believe many markets, there is a shortage of the Golf GTIs... It's simply an excellent all-rounder. With the sales in Europe I think I can say that the Golf is excellent in its current guise.

Re: New VW Golf VI coming in 2008.

In my mind, if VW want to rationalise the Golf range, they should drop the Golf Plus rather and offer 5 and 7 seater versions of the Touran, Scenic II style.
