| Re: Mercedes-Benz Debuts the GL550 for the U.S. Market No, the CLS550 has been on sale here for a while now. The ones left with the old 5.0L V8 are the R500 and G500. I read somewhere that the G550 comes this fall, not sure about the R. The way the R sells I doubt they want to just throw a new engine in it, they're likely to facelift it early along with the new V8. M Last edited by Merc1; 04-06-2007 at 05:00 AM.. |

In fact it was just sitting there at the back of the stand without anyone really noticing. Well we noticed because this latest version of Mercedes largest SUV has a 5.5-liter, 382 hp V8 with 391 lb.-ft. of torque linked to a 7 speed transmission. That means it can tow 7500 lbs and it means the GL 550 that will compete most closely with luxury SUV’s like the Cadillac Escalade. And speaking of ‘Slade competition, this new GL comes with 21-inch wheels and a big bold grill with a Mercedes three pointed star that must be about 8-inches in diameter.
