| We live in an era of cross-overs. So, car makers are creating new niche segments every day. The latest "innovation" is eg. PAS: Progressive Activity Sedan - a large 4dr fastback with raised roof. By BMW. Not to mention SAC: Sports Activity Coupe - also by BMW. A 4dr SAV with coupeish roof line. Now BMW are filing for SAS - whatever that means. Could it be Sports Activity Sedan? Or perhaps even Sophisticated Activity Sedan. ![]() I can't even imagine what the hell will that be. ****** So ... If you recall any stupid / weird segment / vehicle designation, please tell us. ![]() Or - even better - suggest your own segment / vehicle designation for a fictional vehicle. ![]() Who is the most creative marketing guy here? Can one of you outdone BMW? Hehe. ![]() Plese, do not be afraid. Participate! Last edited by EnI; 10-11-2007 at 11:11 AM. |

| Re: Stupidest vehicle or segment designation contest SSAC = Super Sport Activity Coupe "For the active lifestyle of any poseur". Or maybe, Supercar Activity Coupe (AKA SAC). Nah, it's too hard. BMW's the undisputed king Tycoon already knows what I think of these ridiculous naming ploys. ![]() |

| Re: Stupidest vehicle or segment designation contest SAV = Sports Activity Vehicle Toyota made up this term when they were marketing the new Hilux ute, and they said proudly "The Hilux is the world 1st SAV"....... How lame is that? Ofcourse the Hilux is the world 1st SAV because Toyota made up this random stupid segment designation and lable it on their car. |

| Re: Stupidest vehicle or segment designation contest All these new acronyms are unnecessary and won't bite. FAS and SAC are pointless since they don't fully describe the shape or intended purpose of the car in question. In order for us humans to understand the world we live in more easily we classify and categorize. Not only does it make storage of information easier but it also makes it easier to communicate with one another. SAC won't be used at all since the car weigh over 2 tons, has AWD and is raised with big wheels, which makes it an SUV in the public eye. PAS is very silly too. The car is just like the R-class larger than a E/5er and has a raised roof. That makes it a van the difference is that the F5 will be slightly smaller than the R-class though and more road focused. Since the word van doesn't suit BMW they sliced a part of the roof off making it less practical and used a fancy acronym to make the car sound more glamorous than it is. But technically it's nothing more than an impractical van. Heck I even classify the CLS as a sedan. |

| Re: Stupidest vehicle or segment designation contest Quote:
NO NO Sasha it's not a sedan. It's a Coupe Light Sport and has a lower roof than a sedan with the sitting position closer to the road for better driving dynamics. The CLS is really a road focused tourer for the modern 21th century career nut. *fanboy mode off* ![]() | |
