Unhappy My cousin hated his 997

In April/06, my cousin leased a 997 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. I had a chance to drive it, once...I loved it.

Last week, he returned the car because he "hated it."

He has since replaced it with a BMW 530i...

Re: My cousin hated his 997

Strange - I had a chance to drive the 997 automatic a while back and thought it was the best thing since sliced drugs. Seriously - the level of refinement is off the chart.

Each to his own I guess.

Hate is such a strong word. Any idea why he hated it?

For a 530i? Dang, that's a downgrade if you ask me (in terms of power that is). Why did he hate it so much?

Yes, it is a strong word. But, unfortunately, an apt one in this case.

Previous to the 911, my cousin had a G35 coupe. He fell in love with the idea of owning a Porsche (he could afford a better car now, so, he figured he'd treat himself), but found out he can't live with one. He's not a sports car guy...he belongs in a luxury car.

He loved the way it looked, but he hated the stiff ride; the way he had to literally pull himself out of the driver's seat (he's a slightly heavier fella); & he felt like he was sitting way too low in the car...he just found it too snug. Also, he hated driving with a manual transmission (he learned to drive with a stick for this car...he knew that it wouldn't be the same to have a 911 & get an automatic).

When he went back to the Porsche store he bought it from, the fella there didn't believe him when he said he hated the car. I'm guessing they don't hear that, often...

Downgrade? Maybe. For him, he found that he doesn't care for speed...he just wanted all the luxury bits.

Re: My cousin hated his 997

What a downgrade. From a Porsche 997 to a BMW 530i? Damn.

It could have been worse, Jim. He could have bought a Japanese car instead of a German.
